It might still be based on a Robin/Regal as they were more common than Kittens. The front suspension could have been pinched off a Triumph Herald/Vitesse/Spitfire/GT6 as they were also more available. If it's good enough for Lotus to use...

  Surprised Alasdair has not told us all about it... It's a Sherman BARV (Beach Armoured Recovery Vehicle) and saw action on D-Day.

Used to push and pull landing craft and heavy vehicles out of the sea and onto the beaches... It could wade but not swim...

Protect that from rust and service it regularly and it will go on forever. :)

Indeed, so little to go wrong with them and every spare part you could ever need is still readily available...

And it looked stunning in white :D A colour that suits the old Moggy well. Makes a nice change from that horrid gall-bladder green they are too often seen in...

You wouldn't be referring to the original Post Office Telephones livery by any chance Jim? One good thing that came out of privatisation was the repainting of the van fleet to bright yellow, allegedly for 'safety reasons' !! :-D

No, absolutely not Mick ;) I like that green. The one I'm referring to is the shade that many BMC vehicles carried, including the Mini. I think it was called 'Almond Green'. It never appealed to me. Mind you, if someone offered me a 970 or 1071cc Mini Cooper S in Almond Green for less than four figures I'd not complain, despite the colour ;)

As much as I love yellow vehicles, I did feel the old GPO green was far classier than the yellow that followed it. Likewise, I think railway locomotives look good in dark green...

Ah, you're talking Dark British Racing Green I think.

We had a 1977 Maxi in British racing green. Somebody drove into the back right corner of it when setting off from a few doors away and not deicing their windscreen so could not see. Our insurer wanted to scrap it so I kept it, cut out the back corner wing around the light and brazed in one from a scrap yard plus another light, bumper and tailgate and sprayed it. Possibly cost about £50 in parts and with the £500 from the insurer bought a trailer tent. The car lasted us another 6 years.
