Peugeot 207 1.4 Sportium nit starting

Unread post by Stanza »

1st post, at a loss with my Peugeit 207.
Its a 12 plate Sportium with only 36000 miles on the clock. Immaculate condition and was 1st car for my daughter.

Car passed the MOT 2 weeks ago and when i went to pick it up the car was refusing to start.

Eventually got it started but lights and wipers were operating, in synch, on their own without selection.

Car now does not start, I get a click of a relay in the glove compartment but no turn over of the engine.

Ive tried the BSI reset numerous times to no avail.

The car recently had a new battery ( just prior to MOT), which is discharging if i leave it connected or attempt to start it too many times.

Do i have 2 issues here or could a faulty starter motor be the whole problem?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on thia issue.

Why was the battery replaced, are its connections in good condition and tight ?

The lights and wipers and relay click are likely the sign of the battery being flat, I have seen this on our C5 when flat so these effects may be nothing to be bothered about. You need to use a volt meter to check the battery, when fully charged before the first start of the engine it will be about 12.7 volts, below about 12.5 volts and it needs charging. With the engine running it should be about 14 volts if the alternator is ok.

So it could be a faulty battery despite it being new, a faulty alternator/drive belt/connection so that it is not charging the battery, a short circuit somewhere causing the battery to go flat. Or if you have fit an aftermarket part such as a sat nav, phone charger, dash cam, these could be draining the battery.

The old battery wasnt holding charge, and the last time i tried to charge it, it nearly cooked itself.

Nothing after market on the car. It just won't start.
It's not even turning over. Just the relay click from the glove compartment.
