Injector seals

Unread post by C4COUPE SI »

Hi folks
I changed the seals in my 08 1.6 110 hdi the weekend
I used m7 nyloc nuts and new studs as seen from a thread posted on here a while ago
The car runs fine as come down the motorway this morning but when I stopped I got a whiff of exhaust, visually checked when I got to work and there is no fluid leaks from the injectors
I tightened the nuts to 8nm
Is that enough as the nuts offer resistance anyway
Could i go to 10 nm?
And the car sounds a little rattly, louder than before the seals being done
Any help appreciated
Simon

There's a few variations of injkectors\clamps\fixings, so I think the engine code would be needed to be sure on the torque settings. (mine uses a clamp\bolt arrangement, no use to you)

The trick is to get the injector seat clean before refitting the injector. In my case a wire brush and careful scrub was enough, but using a seat facing tool may be the way to go if you've already had problems with leaks. They're not expensive, and it's like valve seat facing really.

Mines the DV6TED4 engine with the 2 nut clamp, I made sure each of them were tightened evenly.
All the seats were cleaned with a kit I bought for the job and were spotless when the injectors went back in with ceramic grease
I spent 12 hours doing this job with the intake manifold off and cleaned too all with new seals
I am inclined to tourqe to 10 nm

Quick update, tightened the nuts to 9nm this evening, no more whiff of exhaust and quiet like it was before.
The tightening from 8nm to 9nm was nearly a full turn so people beware of shearing the injector studs
