C5 hdi head light mounting question

Unread post by boristhespie »

Image

2006 MRK 2 Citroen C5 HDI 2lt

Trying to get access to the front mounting of the headlight. One item on failed MOT being that these have broken. I want to either glue or plastic weld them to make them secure but I cannot get the plastic part, in the front middle of the engine bay, off.

I have undone the three bolts at top but it seems to be attached to the entire bumper. Please tell me I don't need to take the entire bumper off. Please?

In my experience, you will need to take the whole bumper off. It isn't that bad, just time consuming.

Parked on a street with only me, a non mechanical type.

"Time consuming" doesn't sound good for the wallet to let garage do it neither.

Haynes do a manual for the C5 that is worth getting. In it for headlight removal it says first remove the bumper. For the bumper it is held on by torx bolts underneath and if these have not been greased before chances are the speed nuts/clips they go into might be rusted making undoing difficult/damaging so a dry run before wanting to remove the bumper might help.

Haynes gives the following
- underneath undo 6 torx bolts at the front/side and 2 torx bolts in each wheel arch
- on top undo 3 torx bolts as in your photo
- pull the bumper slightly forwards then release the clips each side beneath the headlights (photos show inserting a screwdriver through the side bumper/wing gap to push in and release the retaining clips)
- with a helper pull the bumper forward and disconnect its wiring. I would put some cardboard or a blanket on the floor to lower the bumper onto so the paint does not get damaged.

There is a topic by John Douglas on the Citroen Owners Club which includes a photo of the side of the bumper so you can see the clips that need releasing http://citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroe ... ment-89620 It also looks as if the bumper does not need dropping to the ground to get at the headlight.

John was on this forum a lot but I have not seen any posts by him for some time.

This is correct, only the top part and bent a little bit, there is only 1 bolt over there.
