Only driven past it, never been up to it.
Worth a stop off when next passing I'd say. It's very short diversion off the main road, free car park next to it. Information board tells of its construction (and the surprisingly amount of concrete including piles to overcome the turning moments the wind can generate on those huge wings.

Scale of it is odd, looks huge, then as you walk up to it, seemed smaller, then when stood at its feet it seemed huge again! :)

Youngest daughter lives half a mile from it so I pass it quite often. Never been tempted to get close to it.

That's fair enough - I like to try and give these public installations a go and see what I make of them. I quite like the Angel of the North, though I can't quite put my finger on why!

I've seen another Gormley installation "Another Place" at Crosby beach. It didn't really "do anything" for me. Think partly because I spent too long wondering how much was under the sand to prevent them moving and also as to whether the "raised cylindrical protuberances" on their chests were: some sort of nod to how they were made OR because casting nipples is hard to do, so they'd been engineered out! :)

Wow! What a fantastic set of adventures Matt :D I'd love to try driving a JCB!

My abiding memory of the Angel of the North is passing it in a Xantia and watching the odometer flip over to 100K miles...

I watched another Xantia of mine flip over to 200K on the A303 near Andover...

I'd love to visit York and the NRM. Sadly it will now never happen - unless they move it to within a few miles of Paggers ;)

I'd love to see Gormley's 'Another Place' on Crosby beach too... I'm a great fan of his work and that sort of art in general :)

Those big axials Crocodile Dundee, sorry I mean Bobbins, posted are a couple of belters, excellent!

Not sure about the chap with the Wide Load tattoo (I was trying to work out if he was someone famous - I was drawing a blank! (But think I was just slow realising he was simply a fan who is big, not some wrestler called "big fan" or similar! #-o

Apologies, involuntary Father Ted reference coming!

:-D

The play house has "turned blue" today - still awaiting the purple paint (colours selected by the boys from local builders' merchant handy Ronseal colour chart) will get a picture soon.

Also, first mow of the year. Mower started and ran well until mysteriously coughing to a halt and refusing to restart
