[C5 X7] Spec check and parts swapping feasibility?

Hi all,

As I mentioned in my other thread recently, I picked up a 3L diesel saloon with absolutely zero service history last week. Mechanically, it seems mostly fine from the ~70 miles I've driven in it, but I've booked it for a thorough inspection with Chevronics on the 11th. The results of said inspection will determine what I do with the car. In the meantime I've been going over the interior (which is very shabby compared to my 2L). To my eyes it's pretty much identical spec-wise to my 2L, except for the NOMAD module that the RD4 has and an auto-only electrochromic mirror. So I'm certain I can swap a lot of the cosmetic trim over if I end up keeping the car (which I'm very much hoping to do).

I did however notice a couple of oddities while driving it home in the dark after buying it. The glovebox-overhang ambient lights don't work (both passenger and driver sides), I reached over at one point and the diffusers aren't there, it's just a groove. I initially assumed one of the previous owners didn't like them and took them out. I also noticed that the motion sensing LEDs in the driver's door pocket didn't work (and the pocket lining was missing). I assumed they were broken or hadn't been re-connected. The door handle trim is partly unclipped (broken clip?), so I assume someone's been in there at some point for whatever reason. But I also checked the passenger pocket and it too didn't work and had no lining. Decided to have a slightly deeper gander and pulled off the side panel of the dash on the driver's side. There doesn't actually seem to be a loom present for the ambient strip from what little I could see. I then did some digging here and found a thread that suggested that Citroen silently ditched both the dash and pocket lights as well as the pocket lining on ?2010 models (mine's a 60 plate).

With the above in mind, I'd like to make sure I'm not losing my mind. Could I please ask for a spec check on the following:
New car VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

- Ambient strips
- Door pocket lights
- Rear lateral airbags

Regarding the airbags, I'm just curious. The panel that they would live in has a lot more padding in my old car than in the new one and the old one doesn't have them. I didn't see any airbag labels or tags, but could the harder surface indicate the presence of an airbag?

Furthermore, could I please get some advice on the feasibility of swapping the following parts between cars:

- All seats (would the driver's seat position memory be transferred between cars? I think I read that the memory ECU lives in the seat base?)
- Front door cards (my concern here being the pocket lights if they weren't stock on the new car, worst case I can mod the loom.)
- Ambient strips (where do these normally connect on cars that have them present? Again, I'm willing to bodge a bit.)
- Rear view mirror (my old one has the button, this one is auto-only. I found a thread here that suggests it should be a direct swap, but just want to double check.)

I know this thread's a bit of an ask, but I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

Now I'm curious... My only experience with an x7 is my recent purchase (a 2011 model) and I was a little surprised at what it did/didn't have given the age of the car (and being a top spec). What do these look like please?

"Exclusive" didn't actually mean all that much, it got the suspension, electric handbrake, glazed side glass, electric part-leather seats, coloured speedo...and that's about it. pretty much all the other cool stuff was an optional extra. These are the pocket lights. Obviously useless when driving, but still really nice to have. This video is the closest I could find to showing the strips. However, this looks like a custom job. The originals are far dimmer and not as obnoxious.

Thanks. I think I can feel the holes for the door pocket lights.
So the ambient lights were across the dash, rather than in the doors.
Now I want to track some down to retro fit, because…
Does anyone have the wiring schematic (and wiring loom diagram) for the ‘with’ and ‘without’ and/or the parts list for each, I wonder?

I actually had a dig around online to see if I can source the lights, but couldn't find any, hence why I plan on lifting them from the 2L. My memory is hazy, but when I was upgrading my 2L to an RD45, I think I remember seeing that it was literally just a TH resistor and LED in series connected to one end of the diffuser strip, super simple. So I assume driving it would just require a voltage source. It's the sync with the door handle and ceiling ones that I'm concerned about.

I found a thread on here where some guy ordered them from Citroen parts and had them retro fitted. Unfortunately he doesn’t include all the part numbers though.

The part numbers from what little I've managed to find online should be 6362W7 and W8 (W5 and W6 for LHD).

In light of Marc's departure, I managed to get my hands on what appears to be a bootlegged version of service box (?) on a somewhat sketchy VM. So, once I get to grips with it I might be able to find the wiring diagram for the overhang strips.

Right, so if I'm understanding the diagrams properly, 3076 and 3077 are the ambient strips and they run in parallel between pin 9 of the BSI and ground point MC40 which seems to be near the lower hinge of the driver's door somewhere.

As for the pocket lights, they appear to be 3072 and 3073. One is connected between the driver's window controls (6036) and ground point MC56. The other is connected between the passenger's rear view mirror memorisation and lighting control unit (6404) and ground point MC30 which is just weird to me.

I haven't figured out how to extract the fancy SVGs like Marc did, a PDF will have to suffice for now. I can't seem to upload PDFs here, so I've instead put it on my GDrive.


Also as an aside: Jesus, I'm an electronic engineer, but car circuit diagrams might as well be hieroglyphics. LOL

I believe only admin can upload SVG’s to the forum as they can potentially have viruses.
As for the diagrams i have used lots of different manufacturers wiring diagrams over the years & the PSA ones are without doubt the best & easiest to read by a mile.

The clarity isn't bad, I mean automotive diagrams in general not following the standards of regular electronics schematics is just confusing when you're not used to it.

Thanks for the wiring info, that's fantastic.
As I’ve bought the pocket lights complete with the associated control box and loom, I’m *hoping* they will be plug and play into the existing door loom - but we’ll see. That’s all dependent on if Citroen used a standard door loom with the un-used connector in it, or not.

I'm also an engineer and (in personal life/not connected to work) have use wiring schematics etc from various manufacturers. I find the Citroen ones are ok - would be better if colour.
In my experience/opinion, Honda are the best B/W schematics.

Funny you should say that about Honda. My dad drives a Mk3 CR-V, the handbook for it seems like it was written by a mentally challenged toddler trying to reach a minimum word count. It's absolutely horrendous and almost completely useless. They should have just sold the car without one.

Is that the owners handbook or the service manual?
I haven't looked at an owners manual for a recent Honda tbh, so can't comment on those (and tbh their modern service manuals are nothing like as good as their older ones were - though I find that's not unusual for any manufacturer these days, unfortunately!)
