Rear Activa ram hose repair

Unread post by djadams »

Morning all,

Another Xantia Activa emergency flare being fired into the air this morning! :-D

One of the hoses to my rear activa ram has failed (It's been rubbing on a nearby brake pipe, but the failure appears to be facing the other way, and from higher up the hose, where it flexes as the suspension moves so I suspect it's just died of old age). It is now spurting a high pressure jet of LHM as soon as the system reaches pressure. I know the hoses are nolonger available from Citroen, but also that in theory it is possible to remove the unique crimped fittings off the old hose and have them crimped onto new hose by a hydraulic hose specialist... Has anyone either got:

a) a recommendation of a hydraulic hose specialist who they've successfully used to do this remanufacturing? (In which case I'd probably remove and remanufacture both)
or
b) a good secondhand hose that they nolonger want?

Many thanks for your help,
Dan

If the Connectors/end pieces are OK, most hydraulic specialists will be able to reuse them and fit new tubes... I find those places connected with farming/quarry's etc are better than Automotive ones as they are more used to "one off jobs"

Very late update - life got very much in the way, and I didn't get round to sorting it before the wintry weather set in, so the poor thing stayed broken until a few weeks ago when I finally got round to pulling the rear ram out...

...taking the hoses off, carefully stripping the fittings off the end with a dremel...

...and taking them to a helpful hydraulic hose specialist (Nuneaton Hose and Fittings, in case anyone in the midlands ever needs such a place...). For the princely sum of £42 they cut lengths of hose of the same hydraulic spec as the original to precisely match the original lengths, and crimped the original fittings into the ends with new ferrules so they could be fitted back to the ram and the ram could be reinstalled. Perfect.
