U1218 fault code and potential cause- change of timing belt

Unread post by TimKibet »

Hi
I’ve recently changed my timing belt, a Peugeot 2008 and this fault code keeps popping with a permanent status. This has caused starting problems after the code is cleared

U1218 81 is electrical issue with ECU and some other CAN circuit. It is very unlikely that it is made by you changing the timing. However if you did not unplug the battery you might have shorted something by mistake. On timing side of the engine there is not much of a wiring. There is some wiring loom on the left back of the engine and crank position sensor. Check those for continuiti and shorting. Also at first I would try to check fuses and do BSI reset, just for a good measure.
