Hi,
I wasn’t sure which subforum to put this in as my car is actually a 2018 toyota proace verso but as i’m scanning it as a traveller / expert in diagbox i thought this would be the best place. Hopefully that’s ok.
I’ve had it about 6 months now and not done a lot of driving in it but just occasionally i’ve noticed a little loss of power, especially when accelerating then backing off slightly. Today for the first time it actually did the loss of power / jerky motion and stalled whilst driving at about 40mph.
There were a load of codes, so i cleared them all and took a short drive. The only thing to reappear after the short drive was P0340 64 Inlet camshaft position sensor signal - Signal not coherent.
A quick google suggests that a faulty camshaft sensor could cause this and they look fairly straightforward and inexpensive to replace so i thought i’d give it a go before going any further.
Anyone experienced similar problems?
The only other issue that has been noticed was some tiny bits of brass in the fuel filter when serviced but i’ve had two different opinions on that from two local mechanics but both say to keep an eye on the next filter change.
The car has 70k miles on it, 2l DW10F engine. I was going to try a DIY check of the sensor with a multimeter and maybe a replacement but i’m not exactly sure where it is and am struggling to find the exact part number. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks

Looking at your photo, behind the oil filler cap there is a sensor which could be the cam shaft sensor. Best place to get a new one will be a Toyota dealer then you know it will be right. I believe this forum does not have access to Toyota part numbers.

Re: p0340 64 camshaft position sensor
Just a heads up, it doesn't have to be a sensor. It might be bad wiring, faulty ECU and even stretched/skipped timing. Changing parts without further diagnostics might be just throwing money out of window. At least get a diagnostic tool from someone a look at live data for the sensor. If it is dead, it will probably be the sensor or some corrosion in the wiring. If the sensor is working but is working out of sync it might be bad engine timing.

thanks, i was hoping to inspect the sensor maybe stick a multimeter in it and get the part number off it. hopefully that’s itPaulC5 wrote: 25 Mar 2025, 22:37 Looking at your photo, behind the oil filler cap there is a sensor which could be the cam shaft sensor. yea thanks i’m not going any further than the sensor, if i even bother with that. i’m assuming it’s going to be £30-40 but i could well be wrong.Arkis wrote: 26 Mar 2025, 05:30 Just a heads up, it doesn't have to be a sensor. i’ve got an aliexpress special cable and diagbox here, you think i’d be able to determine if the sensor is good through that?

Sure, if it is fullchip, it should be able to read all data.
