But no, although, thinking about it, a larger version might do that job admirably...

Had I photographed it from the opposite side it would have given a big clue...

It's a tool to easily crack open 35mm film canisters in the dark so the contents can be loaded into a developing tank.

I'm soon to commence doing my own processing and have been accumulating the kit needed. I'm now just about ready to go. Black and White initially and maybe colour in future...

I'm surprised that I failed to recognise that Jim.
And more surprised that I don't remember what tool I used to use to open the 35mm cans with. Probably a common or garden bottle opener.
We used Ilford products for a while and never saw one such as that.

Yes, a bottle opener was always the traditional Steve, or an old-school tin opener although in a changing bag they could be a bit fiddly...

I've not possessed a traditional bottle opener in any form for longer than I can recall... Not had need of one for many, many years now...
