Re: Potholes
Well, councils appear to be doing everything possible to avoid paying out on damage caused by potholes, if this article is to be believed;

Re: Potholes
I bet those were secretly 'engineered' by a local tyre dealer who conveniently has a tyre shop just up the road....
I've just downloaded a great new App, so when I'm out walking I can use it to report them automatically - totally brilliant.
I went on a mission the other week as I was fed up of tripping up on my daily walk,, It geolocates the pot hole or road issue, snaps the picture and uploads automatically to the correct local authority department. I was a bit skeptical, but bu**er me it actually works - when I got home back on WiFi, it sent all the reports off and I had email confirmation back for 2/3s of them (some I probably mucked up so didn't get sent).
They then notified me that they had been out and filled the worst ones after assessment. Went off on another walk and sure enough the worst ones had all been filled by a bloke with his tar and spade!
It's called Fix My Street for anyone who's interested.
Just needs a valid email for the reporting (I use a hidden Apple Email) and works great.
Link here which also contains the links for Apple and Android Apps. I must of sent off about 15 reports on that stretch of walk.

Re: Potholes
All councils should adopt that.

Re: Potholes
I think it works everywhere Steve - it's the same as if you made a complaint directly - but saves all the hassle of doing it yourself. It knows the local authority and their departments and does all the submissions itself - you don't need to do anything except use the app to log, it geolocates automatically and you just snap the picture from within the app (no need to open camera app) and up to 3 pics per incident. It does the reset, so you can either save the draft if off WiFI or upload there and then if you have mobile data.

Re: Potholes
Sounds remarkably simple.
The roads around here are in rather better nick than yours and it is rare to encounter one.
Otherwise I might be tempted, but I do have a huge dislike of 'apps', just because it is such a silly word.
Probably American.

Re: Potholes
I dunno, thought it was just an abbreviation of "application". Certainly rolls off the tongue easier than the full word, might try and convince SWM(sometimes!)BO to download it as the roads aren't great in Manchester (generally "acceptable") but definitely very sub-par in Cheshire where we spend a lot of time driving.

Re: Potholes
Yes I agree it is an abbreviation of applications. No use to me though as I have geolocation turned off!!

Re: Potholes
I don't dispute it, just dislike intensely, would rater use 'applications'.
Just like 'Welp' what misbegotten nonsense is that!
Some words just shouldn't exist.

Re: Potholes
I'd not come across that Steve, so I looked it up, if ever there was a completely pointless word then that must be it!!

Re: Potholes
I make a distinction between between apps/applications and programs. Apps seem to be targeted towards phone users and as such are a cut down affair with not as much functionality as a proper desktop program.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.
