Is the scanner actually talking to the ABS system? Can live data be read from wheel speed sensors, brake switch etc?

If i remember right i had something similar on a Xsara Picasso ABS system many years ago, Lexia was reading no fault codes & the issue turned out to be a blown ABS warning lamp bulb. The warning message was coming up But there was no actual ABS warning lamp, Is the actual lamp with the picture of the skidding car illuminating?

ABS light 'No function' but no ECU fault code, how clear? BSI?

Unread post by captainkephart »

Hi Wheeler,
Sorry for the slow reply to your good suggestions.
Yes, the ABS light comes on along with the message.
I had the car tested with a 'proper' OBD reader, still no fault codes.

I replaced the two front sensors (both were damaged) and cleaned the road dirt off the slotted rings. Close check showed up no cracks or missing segments. A couple of places the rust had pushed them a bit high (shown by shiny sections). Gentle tapping was enough to deal with that.

ABS light has gone out on its own, all now good ...

A lot of fuss about nothing really! Thanks again for the help and advice.
Ciao, Capn K ;-)

I have a 2007 Citron Xsara Picasso 1.6 petrol. with a RL ABS error when diagnosed . I have replaced the rear nearside sensor but the the ABS Light still comes on after a few seconds after turning on the ignition.
Does anyone have the ABS wiring diagram so I can test continuity of the sensors under the bonnet . .
Thanks for reading Tony

There are no sensors under the bonnet - only the wheel speed sensors at each wheel? What fault code are you getting?
Have you cleared the fault code after replacing the sensor? ABS light should come on temporarily with ignition, but should go off again.

If you want a diagram, you'll need to provide your VIN. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

Im guessing what tonyfay means is to check the continuity & resistance of the sensors at the ABS ECU connector under the bonnet thus checking all the sensor wiring at the same time?

Thanks members for your input and reply's to my post.

Yes PaulC5 , I have driven the car since the sensor was replaced .

The error on Launch diagnostic scan tool was "RL Wheel Speed Sensor Signal Faulty" "Permanent Fault" no code number listed. cleared all fault codes , but fault returns.

Yes GiveMeABreak , ABS light does come on temporarily with ignition, on , then it goes off. but after a few seconds without even starting the car or moving the car, the error light comes back on again.

Yes Wheeler, I do wish to check continuity & resistance of the sensors at the ABS ECU connector under the bonnet. this is why i'm asking for a wiring diagram

The car VIN No. is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

again thanks for your input.

My report after testing the wiring .
I unplugged the large connector on the side of the ABS Control Module unit.
Using a multi-meter I measured the resistance of each Sensor on the pins indicated in the wiring diagram supplied above .
all sensors indicated various Resistance readings except the Front Right Sensor on pins 9 & 10 . This was reading Open Circuit.

I Confirmed that the wiring in the loom to this sensor was ok by unplugging the right front sensor and putting a short wire across the socket pins where the sensor connects to the loom . this was confirmed with a multi-meter on the pins 9 & 10 on the Control module plug.

So I have now ordered a new front Left ABS Sensor, I should have it onMonday. :)
Thanks again for all your input, This is a great Forum.

The Launch Diagnostic unit had indicated that it was the RL Speed sensor that was faulty and this threw me on a wrong diagnosis of where to look .
