My fixes over the years have a few times found things which needed doing but we're not always noticed till you had a poke around , which when done gives peace of mind. Always good to have a tinkering & fettling time.

Absolutely, most "little jobs" take me ages, generally as it snowballs as soon as I get stuck in!
Wheel arch liner off: ah, few surface rust bits to treat and paint whilst I'm there.
Changing the wiper blades: hmmm, maybe I'll take the arms off for a repaint as the black is a bit dull.
Etc!

All good fun!

If I lived anywhere near one I'd be there like a rat up a drainpipe I'm so jealous of Alasdair who has one, the East Somerset Railway, almost at the bottom of his road... It's in easy running distance for me

He knows how I love that particular railway as with almost every visit to his, I enjoy a run there and back for a quick look-see at what's going on. It has a great café and on occasion I've spent quality time up in the signal box. If I did ever volunteer, it would be almost certain it would be in the Signals and Telegraph Department.

Our nearest proper one, the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre at Quainton Road, is a good 25 miles away and hard to get to. I've ridden there on my bike a few times; easier than driving there for sure. Sadly, way too far away for me.

I know there's a toy one at Leighton Buzzard but I have more hatred for that town than is imaginable so that's out

It's been an interesting morning doing a bit of diagnostic work on a C4 Picasso with an AdBlue issue and only having 100 miles left before it throws in the towel.

It belongs to a near neighbour who, amongst other things, fixes broken conservatories - we are in discussion about mine

Putting Dogbox on it was initially not very rewarding until I discovered this particular Picasso likes to identify as a Space Cadet

Then we were in business

It has a P2047 00 fault which points to the AdBlue injector...

Of a bit more concern was a failure to communicate with the Urea ECU...

Apologies for the picture quality - mobile phone shots of the laptop screen rather than proper screenshots...

The 2047 fault remains as a hard fault and the car still has only 100 miles left... I was hoping a token effort at clearing faults may have sorted that but no, sadly

It seems the missing ECU may be a red herring and the problem is either the injector or the wiring to it. I still need to check F4 which I believe will pop if the injector is short-circuit.

An actuator test on the injector fails but all else on the system seems OK... Both owner and I hope it's just a manky connection to the injector or a duff injector.

The urea pump whirrs nicely as expected and all other bits of the system seem functional.

You need to re-set the De-nox system (possibly under engine ECU, and then repair functions) - this will reset the countdown. It will then re-appear quite quickly once it picks up the fault on the injector, but it should at least give another 700 miles.

Meanwhile, we've had the injector out and it's testing open-circuit.

It was remarkably easy to get it out, the hardest bit was removing the undertray...

We need another. Autodoc do them but offer three OEM part numbers... Seems neither ECP or GSF do them and Trodo want a huge amount of the folding stuff..
