Xantia V6 cooling fans running at lower temperature

Unread post by naxmon »

Hi Guys,
My V6 came finally from the workshop after an engine rebuild, the engine seems ok now, however I noticed the cooling fans (low speed) are starting at a lower temperature (around 86 celsius) than the normal 94 celsius, all temps measured with Lexia and not using the dashboard temp which I'm aware is always lower than the real one ;)
I already checked Bitron unit, three different brown sensors, measured supply voltages to the bitron unit, used another Bitron unit from a friend's V6, system was bled several times and no matter what I have done so far, the fans still are starting at the same "lower" temperatures.
I thought the problem must be electrical, but now I'm thinking it might be that the area where the brown sensor is located could be getting higher temperatures than the green sensor, could this be possible?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Greetings from Colombia.

Hi, I don't know if someone is interested but I finally got to solve the problem.
The issue was that I was using the temperature reported by the engine ECU (using Lexia) and as the cluster always shows under-temperature (as in all V6s...), I was misreading the whole thing! The brown sensor and the Bitron unit was doing exactly what it meant to, starting fans at 95 Celsius.
The problem was that the green temperature sensor was changed by a previous owner and he used a green sensor from another Xantia. Checking DocBackup, I noticed that the V6's green sensor has a different part number than other engines. Bought a new green V6 sensor and the problem was solved.
