Wireless phone charging

Unread post by the2ems »

My iPhone 11 says it can be charged wirelessly (Wireless charging (works with Qi chargers10)) and the owners manual says the car charges a compatible device. But I don’t seem to have this facility. Should it come with all models, (2023 C4 C-Series)? And how do I find out? Is there something in the settings to activate it?

Only if you have the wireless charging option.

Currently, it is standard on C4 'e-series' Trim level, but a £500 option on the 'MAX' trim; or for earlier vehicles with Shine Plus Trim, it was a £150 extra.

Thanks for the reply. Would have been a nice bonus if I had that, but not a deal breaker

This is the thing, they keep mixing and matching the options and making some standard kit and others options - all to do with marketing and what the competition is doing, which is why they can often change the specs 2-3 times a year.

I have the charging option but don't need it. It always makes my phone hot. I don't need to charge my phone while driving. However the location is really good for keeping my phone. Is there any way to turn the wireless charging off?

Probably remove the tray it sits in & unplug the connector

Perhaps a 3mm sheet of steel will block the signal.

Can't figure out how to remove the charging tray. Will try to find a steel plate with the right size.

Just try it with any pieces of steel that come to hand to ensure that that technique works.

I found a piece of copper clad laminate. That's a think copper layer with phenolic board backing. When I put the board on the tray, the indicator flashed orange. I think it has interfered the charging device. I'll try steel next time.

What's the issue? If you don't like it, just don't use it - I can't understand the problem.

You clearly should not put any metal onto the charging pad apart from a device designed to use magnetic induction charging. Although these systems incorporate 'Foreign Object Detection', it can cause these objects to heat up.....

Hadn't considered that Marc although I doubt that there would be any significant heating as the metal would be it's own heatsink and only used intermittently.

But the option of just not putting the phone there is far simpler.

You're missing the point. It's not the original poster who has the problem. Chenkl likes the position of the phone and doesn't want or need the charging capability.

No, not missing the point. It's perfectly normal operation for the phone to become hot using this method. It will stop when the phone's charged in any case.

I understand it's normal for the phone to get hot using wireless charge, just don't like it. It charges slower and hotter than charging by USB. Right now I don't put my phone on the tray and use a cable to charge when I need to. However, the tray is still in my mind the best place to put my phone. Maybe the best solution is to find a phone not supporting wireless charging.
