Peugeot Expert 2.0Hdi - ECU locked

Unread post by Zelbra »

Good day to everyone,
Long time admire & follower however first time to open up a new topic and ask for help and advice!
I have my 2012 Peugeot expert 2.0hdi automatic with original problem cranks but no start.
Parked for 3 minutes and tried to start again but no-go! Original fault codes P0685, P0686 & P0215.
I disconnected battery to charged it. Couple of days later I tried Diagbox again and now "vehicle immobilisation info" screen shows following:
-Control unit condition: ECU Locked
-Status of the coded engine immobiliser programming: CMM matched (1st time).
-Problems detected during transmission of the unlocking code: Reading of the codded immobiliser code impossible.
(Engine management ECU internal problem, replace ECU)
ECU still reads following: fuel pressure when cranking over 300 bars, camshaft/crankshaft in sync, however no data for injection time for all cylinders: value 0 zero.
Now in ECU I have about 14 different codes (due to testing) however nothing can be deleted with Diagbox due to locked ECU. Not possible to do any actuator tests that go through the ECU.
My question is: is it really ECU problem or am I misled here by any other issue?
Any advice is welcomed and much appreciated!
Cheers, Zel
(not an expert in car diagnostics by any means, just trying)

I don't have personal experience of this fault, but it sounds like a corruption of the flash memory or E2ROM in the ECU, and would need the ECU reprogramming with a clean file by someone with the equipment to do such things...

Here is a report of a similar issue: https://mhhauto.com/Thread-IMMO-Problem ... 006-SOLVED

Thanks a lot for your reply!
I will try to send this one to someone to look at it. I am very suspicious of this ECU however I am not sure if this was initial problem or this came up as a secondary problem after I did some diagnostics and battery disconnections.
Let's see, I think ECU bench test is the way to go!
Cheers

You have not mentioned if you have tried the spare key?

May be worth getting something like this, cheap & great for checking if the immo aerial is sending a signal to the key

It could be the wiring harness, rather than the PCM itself, or a fuse. P0685, P0686 could still just be a bad battery. When you charged the battery, did you have a tester function to confirm it was ok?
P0215 is for engine shut-off solenoid. Was this checked?
When you removed the battery, did you check the fuses on the fuse box above the battery and when you put the recharged battery back in, sometimes not all the bolts are tightened properly and you get a loose connection somewhere, so could be worth checking again. Also, the wiring gets corroded/furred up so it's with giving it the contact cleaner wire brush treatment.

Thank you for your replies!
Yes I have tried the second key with no success. Also 4 digits immobilisation code was tested and it is all matching.
Battery was tested and all main connections tightened and inspected. Main fuse box was replaced with exact working unit with no luck.
At the end this is what I got through the Diagbox:
ECU locked - Engine management ECU internal problem, replace ECU

Just updating this one with my Peugeot Expert!
I have found exactly the same working second hand ECU. Then I got someone to clone it for me to mirror the original ECU. I thought this is going to fix the problem however no luck!
The car cranks but no start.
It reads following in the ECU immobilisation information:
- Control unit condition———ECU LOCKED
- Status of the coded engine immobiliser programming———-CMM MATCHED(1st time)
- Problems detected during transmission of the unlocking code———-READING OF THE CODED IMMOBILISER CODE IMPOSSIBLE
It looks like that ECU has lost unlocking code or it got corrupted so it has to be somehow updated.
Unless there is a physical wiring problem in-between BSI & ECU?!
Any suggestions are welcomed and much appreciated! Thank you

Hi there, i have fixed it! There was a problem with the ECU getting locked due to not reading immobiliser code from BSI. So I had someone to do IMMO off on the ECU. That has fixed it!
I hope that you are going to fix your problem too!

Hi thanks so much for the reply! Good to know you got it fixed that way, we’re being recommended the an emulator to bypass the ecu, think it’s what they put in a immo off one. We’re concerned as have heard it can cause issue with fault codes and warning lights on all the time, with potential for issues with dpf regen/ad blue but don’t think you would have this with a 2012.
Thank you

2012 will probably not have Adblue but will have a DPF.

The emulator only bypasses the security. Wouldn’t expect it to cause any running issues or issues with DPF etc
