Just a sneaky excuse to post a pic of Jane Birkin.

Perhaps I will start a Jane Birkin appreciation thread then.
She is French-ish after all.

The lovely old finger post sign has been replaced with a characterless modern one, and the patch of grass is now shrub beds. Oh, and Jane Birkin has also gone

Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
Sort of in the same vein;
Our commune (LA) has at last given houses numbers & signposted entries to each little area on the roads previously called 'Lieu dits' (known as) where each house was identified as Lieu Dit ****. A nightmare for deliveries etc.
The signposts are finger type fixed to posts planted in the ditches in our country road which stick out to the edges of the road & are constantly getting smashed off by lorries & agricultural machines & run over by vehicles.
Getting fed up with straightening & replacing our areas signs I emailed our Services Techniques office telling them I was constantly repairing/replacing the signs & suggested that maybe vertical signs might be less liable to damage.
A few days later I received a very officious letter telling me that I was not to touch their signs & report any damage to them for the commune's attention.
I now just send them photos of signs laying annihilated in the road.
