HDi V6 cam cover breather upgrade?

Unread post by wurlycorner »

Looked at my cam cover breather on my 3.0 V6 today and it broke where it goes into the T-Piece (both sides).

It's because the plastic pipes have gone brittle.
With the aid of a pick, I managed to clear out the broken/brittle crap inside the T-Piece and then chop them back and force them back into the T piece as a short term fix, but that won't last.
I don't want to cobble together a repair with some generic hose that won't look right, they're easy enough to replace and not horrendous money (especially if buying the pattern part for half the price - though I wouldn't do that):

But it seems to me this must be a common problem and they will go again?

Does anyone know if there's an 'upgrade'/mod available for them?
I have done a quick search around on the internet (I assumed someone in the Land Rover/Jaguar community would have done something by now) but haven't spotted anything just yet.

Just to update on this, I've spoken with a someone I trust that's owned and rebuilt several of these engines in Discovery's and they haven't seen a problem with them, so hopefully it's not endemic and just an odd problem on mine?
I'll check round the various marques that used this engine to see the cheapest I can find an oem part (PSA/Ford/Land Rover/Jaguar etc.)!

Just to update, held off ordering it a little bit while my 'bodge' repair held, but as suspected it didn't last long (took the engine cover off today and without touching the pipe I could see it had parted again by itself).
PSA part number is 118053 - and just to show how entirely arbitrary and utterly ridiculous/appalling PSA parts supply is... It is NO LONGER AVAILABLE from Stellantis; despite still being a current manufactured part available new, OEM, to Land Rover/Jaguar for approx £50 and after market options available from approx. £19.
I've ordered a Land Rover OEM part (which is of course FoMoCo branded!).

Item 6 in the PSA OEM parts diagram below (Stellantis west london emailed me the image when looking it up earlier).
