The factory fitted S-Roof should tilt and slide back. The glass when sliding back, drops down below the roof line then goes back as much as you want it, then if you change your mind and switch to tilt. It will move forward and tilt till its flush with the roof and you have to repush the switch to tilt in the same direction as you switched to close from the slided back position.
Can you hear the mechanism trying to drop and slide back.

Cheers sooty.Well the roof lifts fine when you push the switch.
Pressing the switch in the opposite direction the glass starts to close back into the roof, this seals the opening.
But when you get out of the car and look a where the roof has settled, its stopped about 5mm below the cars roof, as ifs about to travel backwards ? At this stage to motor stops ?
The roof seems to seal and doesn't leak water.
Checked the rails and cannot see any obstructions ?

On a Xantia you can wind the roof by hand using an allen key type tool incase the motor fails. It is located under a flap where the handle would be if the sunroof was not electric. I suspect your car will be the same. You could try winding yours by hand and see if it will slide. It is very stiff when you turn it by hand. If it will then it looks like the limit switch positions are set up wrong.

On my ZX the switch is shaped like an "S". Press the recess side (nearest the screen) and the roof goes up to tilt. Press the 'bulge' bit and the roof lowers and then slides back taking the inside cover with it. [:)]
The roof wont leak, as the inside hole is smaller than the outside and has a gutter running round it. But if it's not flush it will make a lot of wind noise at higher speeds. I have not noticed any means of operating it manually. [:(]
If you tilt it up, then spray along the inside runners with silicone, that may cure the problem. [:)]

Thanks so well well i the manual says there should be an Allan Key under the light/switch console so i'll try a manual wind.

Press the 'bulge' bit and the roof lowers and then slides back taking the inside cover with it
Pressing here the roof drops by about 3mm then everything is silent ?
It doesn't slide back even a millimeter ?
Thanks so far

Try running something thin in the gap all round the roof edge to see if its jamming. If it is, (my Aura did) tilt the roof up just enough to get a piece of wood against it (to spread the blow a bit and protect the seal rubber) at the tight spot, then tap the wood with a rubber mallet where it jams. If that fails, then get a bolster chisel with a wide edge, and lever the roof back a bit, again use the wood to protect the rubber seal, and put something wide in the gutter to lever against so that you don't damage the gutter.. This latter method solved the problem on my Aura. (But hitting it with a mallet was much more satisfying..) [:D] [^]

Thanks for help so far....Well latest.
Managed to get the roof to wind back manually with the allan key in the motor.I then tested the switch and motor brought the roof back but would not close it fully..Seemed to judder in the rails ?
The roof does open now on the switch but needs a push to get it started.
I'm now begining to think the roof hasn't been open for a long time, the rails look dirty when open.
I'll clean the rails and need the lubricate them with something ?
Anyone got any Brand Names ?
Nearly there....Cheers for now..
