EOLYS Fluid reset Citroen C5 1.6hdi

Unread post by petey11 »

Hi
I am a new member and understand that once the Eolys fluid is refilled, the counter in the ECU has to be reset.
I topped up the fluid some time ago but the car has been off the road and I am currently trying to get it roadworthy again.
The dilema I have is the vehicle has no MOT (as I need to get the dreaded steering rack replaced, awaiting new quote) due to a shaft leak and have contacted several mobile diagnostic people to see if they can do a reset, as I cannot drive it on the road. So far they have said they do not have the software to do it.

Does anyone know of a mobile diagnostic tech in the Chalfont's area (15 min from M40 j2, M25 j16/17/18) in South Bucks that has the capability to do a reset. Obviously the DPF fluid warning keeps throwing an engine fault warning on start up, which I believe would be a MOT fail.

The garage that will be quoting for the rack (quote from last year approx £1000-1100) gets an outside man in for electric diag, etc so would be paying a premium middle man fee if they were to do it. My other local garage had a go when I enquired about the rack(which they were not interested in doing) but could not clear it either.

Thanks in advance for any help members can provide

My vehicle is driving around fitted with a fresh bag of eolys fluid, it warns me at every startup but the system works fine, it regenerates fine, just the service light at startup and the warning, it passes the MOT like this and has driven over a year, in your situation I would just drive it, you will not cause harm.

Thanks for the info Stewart, I will maybe check with the garage quoting me for the rack as they do MOT:s as well. If that's the case I may get them to MOT straight after the rack is done if their price is agreeable, whilst the car is there.

The government sets the MOT price and is now a maximum of £54.85 so going elsewhere will not be less unless they have an offer on.

PaulC6 I was referring to rack. Reading what I wrote I can see it could be confused with price for the MOT.

Just for you to be aware that even if it's the rusted pinion syndrome that most of us have suffered from, just be aware that the power steering pipes may be more of an issue as these are no longer available from Citroen in many cases (depending on model and pipe). So this can make the job a lot more difficult as extreme caution is needed if intending to reuse the pipes as the pipe ends / seals are obviously weakened when removed and this can be problematic. Also, you need to be fully aware that there were 2 types of racks fitted depending on engine, each having a different steering angle, so do not get the wrong rack fitted! This will cause problems driving the vehicle and another member found this out recently. So ensure you have the correct part number for the rack as repairers may not know there are different versions.

If you're not sure which rack type you have let me have the VIN and I can at least advise of that.
