Xantia Speedo

Unread post by druist »

I know this has been covered before but i cant find a post thats the same.
My odometer works fine BUT the speedo goes upto 50 and stays there, or if it decides zooms back down again. It never goes above 50.
Any ideas as to what is the culprit here, thanks?

Twice I have had the same problem. I replaced both units and all was OK. If you take care in removing the instument pod you do not even have to remove the wheel but do drop it down on the adjuster as far as it will go.

The rev counter is driven from the TDC sensor, located at the n/s end of the cylinder head just above the bell housing. There is a connector in the lead just above it, this is very often the cause of the fault.
Your speedo problem sounds like the instrument its self.

Pete, do you mean the actual dial or the trnasducer? Is the unit attached to the back of the dial i see in the dashboard or the part on the gearbox?
is it just coincidence the rev counter has gone too. Neither worked since i have had the car - just the odometer.
Does the 1995 model have a transducer or just cable and worm drive?

I would replace the instrument pod before attempting anything else, then try Peters suggestion. Do not forget to test the bulbs before you full replace the panel.
