Hi guys, I'm about to change my battery too. Currently, by VIN and specification - it's recommended EFB battery (70Ah, 760A, LN3 case size).
However, on my previous car (Citroen Grand C4 Picasso 2014) it was AGM battery which is obviously better (and more expensive).
Since i have a lot of additional electronical devices such as external car alarm, dashcam which is also always turned on, i'm thinking to change my EFB to AGM battery.
Is it possible/allowed? All params are the same, 70Ah, 760A, LN3, even brand (varta) is the same for EFB and AGM.
Do I need to reconfigure smth in computer, i.e. setup a new type, that now it's not a EFB but AGM type installed?
Or i can simple change my EFB to AGM?

Re: Grand C4 Picasso battery replacement
You need to be aware that AGM batteries are sensitive to overcharging. So a charge to 2.40V / cell (and higher) is fine, but the float charge should be reduced to between 2.25 and 2.30V / cell (summer temperatures may require lower voltages). Vehicle charging systems for flooded lead acid batteries have a fixed float voltage setting of 14.40V (2.40V / cell) so a direct replacement with a sealed unit could overcharge the battery on a long drive.
So you should err on the side of caution as although many will say yes, go ahead and upgrade to an AGM, you must consider the charging aspect - a dealer will tell you to replace an EFB with an EFB. It could affect warranty (if applicable) if you have fitted the incorrect battery and any knock-on damage occurs as a result.

Re: Grand C4 Picasso battery replacement
So, as i understand, there is no need to change anything via diagbox?
I haven't warranty anymore (there was first two years only).
And about damage, is it applicable only for battery itself, or it might occur with a whole electronic car system?
If it's just battery, i can live with this risk, it's just about 200 EUR, but if it might damage a car system, it might costs much much more to repair

Not if changing for the same battery type and level.
But as for different types, I can only refer you to the advice above as Citroen will tell you to replace EFB with EFB.

Re: Grand C4 Picasso battery replacement
You have an interesting way of avoiding answering a direct question.
For the third time, I’m asking specifically about replacing the battery type from EFB to AGM. I’m not interested in simply replacing EFB with another EFB.
Once again, I want to replace an EFB battery with an AGM one. The voltage, capacity, and starting current are identical in terms of specifications, but the type is different.
Is it possible?
In this specific case, does anything need to be reconfigured in the computer?

Re: Grand C4 Picasso battery replacement
I've answered your question. I can't help it if you don't like the answers. If you're not going to take the advice, then why bother asking in the first place?
Official Citroen recommendation is to replace with the same type - EFB with EFB, AGM with AGM.
It's because of the charging as I've explained in a previous post.

Because you didn't gave any answer, except recommendation, which i already knew.
Not all official citroen service (dealers) stand on EFB only, some of them confirmed that it's possible to install AGM for my vehicle and told i don't need any computer changes.
BTW. Battery changed. Installed AGM.

I just provided the official stance from Citroen - not your 'dealer mechanic's' personal interpretation!
Why do you think companies like YUASA clearly state this? See here in yellow:
Take it or leave it. Not sure why you bothered asking

Re: Grand C4 Picasso battery replacement
Hi GiveMeABreak,
I am planning to change the battery on my -
2015 Citroen C4 Grand Picasso Exclusive - 2.0 BLUEHDI 150 - Diesel
The VIN is - VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
This is the current battery -
L3 VRLA 12V 70Ah 760A (EN-SAE-GS)
9678006180
Can I replace the battery without any recoding/reprogramming?
I have found a battery at Halfords that looks like it meets the criteria:
Halfords AGM096 Start/Stop 12V Car Battery 5 Year Guarantee
Any advice/help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Grand C4 Picasso battery replacement
Hi
Ok, so yes, original AGM battery, so replace with AGM. Halfords are quite expensive compared with Yuasa direct, specifically this one:
https://www.yuasa.co.uk/ybx9096.html
No coding needed when replacing with same type and capacity, so you'll be good to go, just use the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure when removing and replacing the battery.

Go here, and use the 'battery lookup' function.Sjohn wrote: 05 May 2026, 18:41 Hi Folks,

Put in your vehicle reg and it confirms the same model that should be in yours.
Upto a certain date they were AGM then they changed to EFB. But you need to get the exact same one that was fitted to your vehicle from factory to avoid issues.
This lookup gives you the correct variant.
