2001 Xsara steering wheel airbag

I recently had to replace washer stalk so had to remove the steering wheel air bag to do so.
I had trouble putting the air bag back on. Every other car I’ve done this to it simply pushes in and clicks into place easily but it’s not the case with the Xsara. First I tried it and I didn’t seem to sit in correctly on one side. I took it off and put it back in but holding the spring down on the bottom clip so it would go in and now it’s sitting completely flush at bottom with only the top having a gap for horn to work, although I’m not sure if this is right as the bottom is also sprung as if it should be able to be pressed in too. Can anyone confirm how the gaps should be?
