RD45 - Display and Microphone Pinouts?

This unit is the RD4 or RD45 system, made by Continental.
Usually standard equipment unless another system is specified as an option. There are Single & Dual Tuner versions. RD45 features over the RD4: The RD45 has USB connectivity & integrated Bluetooth module supporting Phone & Audio Streaming.

RD45 - Display and Microphone Pinouts?

Unread post by shtu »

Ahh, the finishing touches. :D

As in the other thread, I've found the Type C display is complaining about a lack of permanent live, and I still have a microphone to wire in - as predicted, using the existing wiring is more of a pain than just making a new loom.

With that in mind,

Does anyone have the pinout for the Type C display? I thought they were pin-compatible with the Type A, but I'd like to check it over.

The microphone polarity. It probably doesn't matter all that much, but can anyone confirm this is correct?

OK, Microphone sorted and works a treat.

Like so many before me, I reliased it was easier to make a new loom than to faff about in the depths of the dashboard to adapt the existing wires.

But, I'm still left with this error,

F8EB, Absence of the screen permanent plus

And the bluettoth pairing is lost the instant the ignition is switched off. As far as I can tell, the screen has 4 wires, a permanent live, a ground, and Canbus. So I'm not really sure if it's a wiring or screen\head unit fault.

Have you checked that the permanent live is actually present at the correct pin on the screen and the correct pin on the RD45?

Screen - of the 4 wires there, 1 is a permanent live and I've put a meter on it. (can't remember which pin, apologies.) - I wondereed if later cars that are meant to have the type C display had additional wires than the 4 mentioned.

On the head unit, Pin 15 on the large connector is\should be a switched live. tbh I never checked it as the RD4 I pulled out was using the same pin, and it worked just fine. I'll check it though.

One thing I did notice, is that some sellers include a cable that runs from the head unit to the display rather than using the car wiring. As far as I can tell, that uses the power and canbus pins originally intended for the CD changer. Can't imagine it would make any difference, but it's tempting to knock up a loom between the two.

Incidentally, I eventually got to the bottom of the issue.

After some judicious resetting and clearing of codes, the display stopped griping about permanent live. However, the fault with forgotten Bluetooth pairings persisted.

The cure was a replacement head unit and display viewtopic.php?p=820815#p820815

Versions I tried,

4.2.04.01 head, don't have the screen version, sorry. Bought as a set form a single vehicle. This was fine apart from losing bluettooh pairing at ignition off.
4.1.0.1.00 head and 73.2 screen. Bought seperately. The BSI gumbles about a lack of CAN between screen and BSI, but actually works fine. Bearing in mind the car was never meant to have an RD45 and type C Screen, I'm not surprised.

I've no idea about mono\stereo modes, I did literally nothing other than pair it and stream audio. No problem with Bluetooth audio quality with either of these setups, but I am using an Android phone, only thing I have to do is turn up the phone's volume a bit, it defaults to quite a low level.
