Door stuck locked not MOT fail if unlocked for test

Unread post by spiff »

The rear passenger side door on my C5 2003 estate would not unlock, but with help from Peter aspire_helen I managed to get the door panel off.

A sharp hit to the rear of the motor that was visible opened the door.

Despite my best efforts it still stays locked unless hit again.

Peter kindly helped with diagrams to help fix the lock, but it was beyond me, we are just simple folk in Cornwall : )

How ever and you may all know this already, I called at Mullion Garage this morning and spoke to the tester.

If the door opens and closes for the test it will pass. just let them know not to lock it.

I now have more time to sort it.

Picture is of my patented screw driver, that worked better for me than diinner knives with the end bent over to pull the door panel off with the door closed : )

The spokes behind the speaker can be griped with mole grips, to pull the door panel away enough to get the screw driver in.

The opposite door can be used to see where the door panel fixing are which gives a better spot to leaver near.

Move the front pasenger seat forward, so that the screw driver has more room to leaver.

God Bless Spiff : )

I had a similar problem one of our two local controle technique (MOT) places who failed my old Pug 806 when a rear door wouldn't open from the outside. The guy told me it had to be openable from the outside by recuers in the event of an accident & wouldn't listen to me when I said it wasn't a CT fail .
I refused to accept his failure certificate & surprised him by phoning Mme Vic who quickly arrived with her C4 with doors automatically locked.
I asked the CT guy to open a door & when he couldn't explained that perhaps he should contact Citroen to tell them their vehicles did not comply.
The failure slip was quickly torn up & a pass issued.
Yet another case of some locals trying to take us immigrant Anglaise for cash cow idiots.

If you go to awhile you wait MOT test centre you'll never have to worry about the door locking, you stay in the vehicle until it's your turn and then it won't be locked.

I hear the same applies to the spare tyre, if fitted and faulty it is a test fail, if not fitted it does not apply : )

You do not have to have a spare tyre to pass the test.

There may be other such exemptions ?

Brakes not working just remove the pedal and callipers : )

Just one point, chaps. Dont get confused between locking and opening. UK MOT requires all doors to be openable from inside and out, regardless of locks (except child-locks which obviously have to be deselected). Prior to 2012 only the front doors needed to be openable....thats when my "interest" in the C5's rear door locks began!

I have doors that sometimes don't unlock and it's caused by a weak battery.
Sometimes it's one door and the next time it's another one.
One thing they have in common is the battery.
