Re: Just been stabbed.
Been for another voluntary stabbing, RSV this time.
The nurse who administered it said it was 180 quid a shot. I ran away without paying, didn't even stop to take one of the sweets they were giving people*.
* They were doing some kind of survey on which colours people chose most frequently. They also asked if I could say respiratory syncytial virus.
I passed on that too.

Another two holes in the fabric.
Covid and 'flu.
There is usually a team of two, today there were seven of them and a right bunch of comedians they are, which makes it all go pleasantly.
They were very quick but thorough and it was like a sausage machine churning out stabbed volunteers.

Re: Just been stabbed.
I drove down through Radlett High Street today and I was amazed to see a queue coming down a good 25 metres of a side road and along the main road for another 20 metres into a gate which I know to be the Vets. Once I got parallel to the gates I saw into the yard and there was a gazebo erected with NHS Inoculation Centre on its side. There must have been 150 plus people waiting. It reminded me of the old days pension day at the post office!! I drove on by!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Just been stabbed.
I had my second Shingles jab last Tuesday and we're both booked in for Flu jabs next Saturday. I should have had the second jab in May but my white blood cell count was a bit low and the vaccine might not have had the required response from my immune system.
Still to come, Covid and RSV.

Re: Just been stabbed.
I overheard the pharmacy discussing the logistics for Saturday's vaccination clinic whilst I awaited mine on Friday; they were expecting 175! Problem is, the queue can't move very fast as there's a bit of admin on a screen associated with each jab. No longer is it done as it was when we were kids at school!mickthemaverick wrote: 05 Oct 2024, 18:46 I drove down through Radlett High Street today and I was amazed to see a queue coming down a good 25 metres of a side road and along the main road for another 20 metres into a gate which I know to be the Vets. I take it all you who've had Covid and 'flu jabs so far have experienced no adverse reactions? My blog details mine

Re: Just been stabbed.
Not had any for years now Jim - I'm personally concerned about the side effects - especially concerning the heart which as expected, is only just coming to light - slowly.
Even mentioned by the BHF:
https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo ... er%20doses.
To be expected with non-tested vaccines - but I guess one has to pay your money and take your chance - if the actual Covid itself is likely to be more harmful than the associated risks of the vaccine, then a personal choice as always.

Re: Just been stabbed.
My last inoculation jab was a Tetanus Toxoid jab given to me to offset the horrendous reaction I had had to my original Tetanus jab, which was given to me as a result of my nasty head injury on an ice slide when I was 10. Not a single inoculating needle of any sort near me since then. I have had a couple of anaesthetics for kidney stone catheter insertion and my dislocated ankle injury but no vaccinations of any sort, nor will I have in the future.

No adverse reactions whatsoever and never have had other than the BCG that caused a weeping blister, went away in about a week. That was 65 years ago though.CitroJim wrote: 06 Oct 2024, 05:26I overheard the pharmacy discussing the logistics for Saturday's vaccination clinic whilst I awaited mine on Friday; they were expecting 175! The doctors had had a special clinic yesterday for Covid/'flu jabs and were being very efficient. There is a check in screen but there were two additional receptionists logging people in too and some didn't have time to sit down before they were seen.
I was very early as I never know how long it will take me to walk there, yesterday took ten minutes but it can take an hour. Consequently I had been jabbed, done some shopping in Asda and was on my way home at the time of my appointment.
It was all remarkably relaxed but efficient. They would have done about fifty people in the time that I was there. Several pairs of nurses, one checking the details, the other stabbing the victims. They did get my name wrong but that was easily corrected.
Despite some initial misgivings I am very pleased with the current surgery and mainly the staff there.

Excellent! Delighted no adverse effects Steve and it sounds like your surgery and staff are really on the ball
Refreshing to hear as some seem a bit chaotic...

I remember the jabs we had in the army before being posted to Egypt, we all stood in a long line and had six jabs for all the tropical diseases, the needles in those days were thick as knitting pins.

Re: Just been stabbed.
Was not aware the vaccine could cause that Marc but was aware a virus could. To be taken seriously as I know a few runners who've suffered it in the past.GiveMeABreak wrote: 06 Oct 2024, 10:07 Not had any for years now Jim - I'm personally concerned about the side effects - especially concerning the heart which as expected, is only just coming to light - slowly.
Indeed, a personal choice I make as I know Covid (and indeed any viral infection) is harmful to me. My last bout of Covid earlier this year took me four months to more or less recover. That was after not being jabbed the previous autumn. Problem with me is that I never do quite fully recover...GiveMeABreak wrote: 06 Oct 2024, 10:07 To be expected with non-tested vaccines - but I guess one has to pay your money and take your chance - if the actual Covid itself is likely to be more harmful than the associated risks of the vaccine, then a personal choice as always.

Re: Just been stabbed.
I've posted before about Dianna Cowern (Physics Girl on YouTube) who has been unable to do anything for herself for a couple of years now following a Covid infection. Her blog on X.
I readily accept all and any jabs. I am aware that there can be some very bad and indeed fatal side effects but as that is statistically a very low possibility I am prepared to risk it. I am rather unusually immune to many drugs/medicines, some have no effect whatsoever.

Re: Just been stabbed.
My youngest worked for a while at a golf course (lived onsite).
One of the club members was a 'medical gadgy', a very pleasant and unassuming type that she got on well with, unlike many of the other patrons there.
After a year or so she found that he was a multimillionaire, although one would never suspect it from his demeanour, or the car he drove.
He was one of the pair that had invented a way to make hypodermic needles much smaller and finer than the existing ones at the time and have the patent for them.

Re: Just been stabbed.
Same here Steve... Normal OTC analgesics (Ibuprofen, Paracetamol and the like) are completely ineffective and stronger painkillers (and every flavour of antidepressant I've had) cause me horrendous problems. Gel-based analgesics like Voltarol are equally ineffective.myglaren wrote: 06 Oct 2024, 11:33I am rather unusually immune to many drugs/medicines, some have no effect whatsoever.
The only painkiller I can tolerate reasonably well and one I know works is Morphine!
