Extension to parts subscriptions

Unread post by RichardW »

Hi All

When PSA began charging for subscriptions to access their parts database, we (the forum admins) bought a subscription and introduced the donation membership upgrade to cover the cost of this, as well as costs of buying other PSA data and ongoing costs of operating this forum. The membership upgrade was for a period of 2 years.

We have now built up a reasonable reserve of funds through the donations of members over the last few years - thanks to everyone who has donated! Reviewing the ongoing costs we have decided that we can extend the active period for parts upgraded membership to up to 3 years from the current 2, i.e.:

donations made in 2023 will now be good to end of 2025
donations made in 2024 will be good to end of 2026
donations made in 2025 will be good to end of 2027

etc....

We are not re-activating members who last donated in 2022.

We'll keep the reserves under review through 2025 to see how this pans out, and we will review this policy regularly.

Spend some of the reserves on a night out for the admins

Just a thought, without them this resource wouldn't exist
Thanx to Marc and all the admins & knowledgeable people that make this the best forum on the interweb. =D> =D> =D>

Totally agree Steve but the reality is that that may be very difficult logistically due to the considerable geographic separation of the team. May I suggest each admin team member has an MOT a year paid for by the forum, as a token thankyou from all of us who appreciate their efforts so much? :-D

Absoflippinlutely.
I'm still always amazed that this place runs like a well oiled French car :-D
thanks to the admin folk.
Dunno where else you'd get the sort of information available here for the price of a few pints every couple of years.

Have you considered extending the vehicle coverage to include Vauxhall /Opel vehicles?

No, that was not discussed and we don't have any plans to do so at present.

Personally I don't believe that is a sensible way forward. While both those brands are now within the Stellantis ownership, incorporating them would inevitably lead to requests to incorporate other brands qualifying by the same means. The current list is:

Abarth
Alfa Romeo
Chrysler
Citroën
Dodge
DS Automobiles
Fiat
Jeep®
Lancia
Maserati
Opel
Peugeot
Ram
Vauxhall
Free2move
Leasys

and therefore I think deviating into any new brands would be hugely corruptive to the basis on which the FCF was founded. I imagine there are forums catering for most of those brands already in existence and so no real benefit for existing FCF members or other Forum members by adding them to the FCF portfolio, not to mention the large increased load it would inevitably place on our hard working team. :)

Sorry Mick there is an even bigger issue including those brands you quoted, it has been muted that Stellantis may not survive many more years and those brands will be let loose in the big wide world - just waiting for Carlos Tavares to be replaced.
Also, the clue is in the name French Car Forum, not French-Italian-American.... Carforum.

Other point re MOT financed by the forum, what happens if admin have a car less than 3 years old! - fully agree that something should be done - FCF contribution to a service, tyres?

Don't worry, Marc, you'll be replaced with an AI module in the not too distant future. What could possibly go wrong ? 8-[ :rofl2: :rofl2:
