The word "silflay" is not from a human language. Probably a good reason for it NOT to be Word of the Day :-D .

Castle Meadow this morning, taken from the Iron Bridge. There's a river down there somewhere!

Castle Meadow is a flood plain and a flood defence for the area of town where I live...

It's done its job perfectly :)

doesn't look like it would take much more rain to flood that house on the side Jim.

It's a very old house Eric and back in those days they seemed to know where to build as despite being right by the river it always just misses even the highest of floods I've seen over many years

Its garden gets a good watering during floods though ;)

We have here in the Forest a village called Lydbrook part of which is flooded every year by the Wye, there's a pub that seems far to high to get problems but it does nevertheless and it was reported recently to be closed for good, not sure if that's true though.

It is harvest time in Burgundy, the view from a bedroom window just now of the winery across the street.

For the next week or two the streets of the town will be sticky with grape juice.

And it can be as slippery as black ice! As I know from Cyprus when I nearly wrote off both myself and an MG Metro after encountering the hazard in the worst possible way

Worth it for the end result though ;)

Today is the day to close the 2024 To Autumn Gallery. 9 pictures loosely related to the To Autumn Poem by John Keats. I have Left one spot No 9 to Fill. An original taken today of a Typical Autumn scene would be a fitting conclusion to the Gallery. Your entries are welcome.

The SH Spring gallery was completed singlehandedly by Alec a few days ago.

Other lines from the poem to inspire contributions.
"Mellow Fruitfulness", "To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees","plump the hazel shells with a sweet kernel",
"later flowers for the bees until they think warm days will never cease", "While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day and touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue" , "The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft","and gathering swallows twitter in the skies.", "Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn"

Another crap photo of the squirrel, now a fairly regular visitor.
Had the camera set to macro so it tried to focus on the window instead of past it :(

Maybe a thread "one for the Air Buffs" would attract a few contributions, one for the Train Buffs is pretty active.

Thought that pic looked like what it is, and of course a little more research led to this, glorious in its insecureness (having an http:// reference) but lots of info on the subject matter. The BA versions remaining are in museums in far flung places. Barbados, New York, Seattle, Heathrow, Manchester, East Fortune in Scotland, and Filton.

Guessing that is the model at Brooklands Museum edit... Brookkands do have a big one too! part of the Development
