With my Amazon Music subscription I never need to buy any album ever again... I download playlists offline so I can listen to them in Polly via her Bluetooth without needing a reliable internet connection. One exception to my general dislike of digital...

I also listen to my Amazon Music playlists on my Garmin running watch when there's nothing decent on the wireless - These days, when running I listen to the wireless via the BBC Sounds App. Another digital dislike exception - all the faffing is accepted as there's really no other way to listen when running - unless I go proper retro and get a Walkman! I won't though as they won't work with my bone conductors...

It's absolutely no problem at all in my experience Steve, no different to my Amazon Prime subscription really... Or my Google, Flickr and Microsoft 365 subscriptions...

I came across 5 wrapped cassette tapes which are at present on the hall dresser Jim, don't know what to do with them sees a shame to throw them away. The quality as I'm sure you know Jim is down the the recording equipment, somewhere I have a Japanese cassette deck which give a top response of 15Khz and sounds amazing. I will have to look it out one day, well down the jobs list though.

Don't throw them away Peter, I'd be very happy to have them...

If they are still shrink-wrapped they should be fine... That said, those five duff ones of mine were...

Tapes do appear to deteriorate... I have some treasured cassettes I recorded 50 years ago and they still play but have lost a lot of 'top' over the years...

My deck is quite a reasonable one... I believe...

I have some reel to reel tapes mostly 'Pick of the Pop's' from about 1959/60, I tried one or two on a ' Popular' tape recorder and they sounded dreadful, fortunately I didn't bin them because a friend came with an old expensive deck, can't remember what it was and they sounded wonderful.

They were recorded on a Philips EL3542 3 speed 4 track machine which I bought new in the '50s and was the best spec'd domestic recorder I have ever seen. That did 15+Khz at 3 1/4 ips lovely machine I have been looking for one for years, keep missing them though.

I have one of the earlier 2 track versions of that model to dispose of (with original service manual), but unfortunately it is located in NZ.

I also have a rather sad example of a Thermionic Sound Mirror recorder from about 1948 for restoration.

It would be on a ship in the 1910s. The Titanic would be an obvious answer, but I can't find any matching image.

Correct, the panelling and mirrors ceiling and citrojim are in the Olympic Room Restaurant of the White Swan hotel in Alnwick, together with a few pics.
