Neil the "Apocrypha" is a collection of books that at some time were considered for inclusion in the Bible, but which were knocked back by the editoral committees that decided these things way back when, as perhaps not meeting the standards of scripture.

A story that's apocryphal therefore is of uncertain origins, not guaranteed to be true, interesting perhaps but to be treated with caution.

So a claim that Jim (who served in the armed forces) was actually a fighter pilot could probably be regarded as apocryphal :).

"Thrifty", as Neil describes himself.

I will adopt that now as I generally use a more derogatory word to describe myself, has to do with my Yorkshire origins.

That has provoked an interesting bit of digging. I would not describe myself as thrifty at all so I was trying to think of an antonym which does describe my attitude to spending. Unable to think of a single word I resorted to DDG and found an antonym generating site. This is the options it offered but I do not think many of them describe my attitude well: :-D

Thanks Steve, the context being my refusal to pay £6.50 minimum to park the car at the Holy Island Village official car park (minimum £9.00 for the one in the village itself). Could have parked it miles away in the dunes just over the causeway but it was 2-fingers time to the rip off, and the Falcon pound didn't get spent in the businesses making a living on the island. Did fancy trying the "Oatmilk" Ice cream, made from first principles on the island ie they make their own oatmilk, the Lindisfarne Mead business generally has a few free samples on offer, and Pilgrim's coffee roast their own Coffee. Not this time though. Maybe out of season they reduce the parking charges.

Ghibli

You may have heard of the Maserati Ghibli. You may even have seen one here, clicked on the link and watched the very impressive video of a very nice car viewtopic.php?p=813093#p813093

You may have heard of Studio Ghibli.

The name "Ghibli" was chosen by Miyazaki from the Italian noun ghibli (also used in English), the nickname of Italy's Saharan scouting plane Caproni Ca.309, in turn derived from the Italianization of the Libyan Arabic name for a hot desert wind (???? qibliyy). The name was chosen by Miyazaki due to his passion for aircraft and also for the idea that the studio would "blow a new wind through the anime industry".[11][12] Although the Italian word would be more accurately transliterated as "Giburi" (???), with a hard g sound, the studio's name is written in Japanese as Jiburi (???, [d?i?b??i] ?).[11]

I'm sure it crops up on University challenge sometimes in a set of questions on Anime.

The word
Fruitfulness

I am the only user (so far) in the history of the French car forum of the word Fruitfulness and also the only user of...

The phrase
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness

Not my original work of course, but probably the most evocative words ever written about the season of the year we currently enjoy.

Jim came up with an inspiring picture on POTD this morning. Not difficult to follow his lead and add your own to Autumn 2024 on that thread.

P A N E L B O O S T

See how long it takes you to rearrange those letters and come up with a ten letter word.

The Chez Falcon results are in

First Place... Instantaneous
Last Place... nearer 20 minutes with some questioning of the player in first place.

I was the one in last place

I'd be further up the table if I'd been spoon fed the answer.

That's pretty good if you were doing it in your head while driving! Did Jim play along :?:

There was another one the other day when I got it instantly very much first place. Then again I do have the "Haggard Hawks" book and I may well have seen it before...

Not revealing how long the word is but it has

DYBI in consecutive letters together somewhere in the word.

Impossible to beat the Falcon on that one...it was too quick to measure saw it straight away. :-D
