hi all
was driving the other day and at a roundabout i felt for a second the car had lost power, then i see there was white smoke from the exhaust. i pulled over checked the oil and water and they were fine, so my next guess was fuel related due to the guage showing full for the last 200+ miles, i openeed the fuel cap to release some pressure.
anyway when its playing up it idles around 500rpm.
on another occasion i opened the bonnet and saw the priming bulb, squashed, and thought this was why it must have been cutting out. to release this, i opened the fuel filter drain and then pump the bulb til fuel comes out. this seems to sort it for a while till it happens again.
now im putting this down to air in the system caused when i put diesel in via syphon from my dads old car. didnt have the problem before this.
what you rekon?
cutting out and bad idle

Sounds like your tank breather is blocked, so as you use fuel it creates a vacuum in the tank and this tries to stop the fuel reaching the engine. Hence the loss of power.
