I have a 2012 Berlingo Multispace, it has the 1.6 8v 115bhp DV6C engine and a 5 speed box.
Coming from a 6 speed C4 with the same engine i know these engines can cope ok with 6 speeds, the berlingo at 70mph is doing 500rpm more than the C4.
Has anyone converted a Berlingo B9 to 6 speeds? Were there late B9s that got the 6 speed box or could i source one from some other PSA car such as the C4 or 308?
Just wondering if the original driveshafts, mounts etc could remain the same.
The berlingo has reverse below 5th where the 6 speed gearboxes have a lift up reverse beside 1st. Guessing that means a different linkage.
I think the conversion would really help the Berlingo, they are a brilliant swiss army knife of a vehicle but on longer journeys the engine revving the head off itself can get a bit tiring.

Conversions like this can turn into a bit of a headache, you end up coming across problems you cant foresee until you actually start doing the work. I would only even entertain trying something like this if i had the complete donor car the box was coming off as you always end up needing bits you never imagined you would need.

If it is the noise that is bothering you a bit of soundproofing may be a far lower cost than a gear box change.

Re: Berlingo B9 6 speed conversion
Im more interested in doing it because its the box the 115bhp berlingo should have had from the beginning. Its noticeable in a C4 or 308 how much nicer they drive with 6 speeds.
I did something similar years ago on a 406 2.2 hdi putting the 6 speed box from the C5 into it and it made it a much nicer motorway cruiser.

Re: Berlingo B9 6 speed conversion
One thing you will need to look into is if the Berlingo can be coded to understand the presence of a 6-speed gearbox. It's probably not -critical- but it's likely to get a teeny bit confused with things like the upshift indicator, mpg calculations, etc. At the very least you'll be looking at box, mountings, driveshafts, gear linkage. And you could find fun things like no standard driveshaft has the ends and lengths required.
Don't assume 6 speed = 1 higher. </spinal tap>
What would be significantly easier is to look at the gear ratios of all the 5-speed variations available, and find one with a taller 5th gear, like someone did here, https://www.berlingoforum.com/thread-19327.html
