Emissions Fault : Starting in 1050km

Unread post by Adam3008 »

Hello! Can anybody help me with this problem I have with my Peugeot 3008 gt line 2019 diesel.
The car has 76,000km and has been fine until I thought I would top up the AdBlue even though the car hadn’t popped up asking to refuel. After filling the AdBlue 5minutes later the engine fault, spanner and Adblue light all came on. I’ve been told my a “chip tuning mechanic” that this is just a coincidence.. From reading on forums I have seen similar issues with these cars.. possible crystallisation, filter or Ads blue Sensor being faulty… Now from what I have read Peugeot dealers love this because they can charge all sorts of moneys to fix this issue. Can anybody recommend to me as what to do. The “chip tuning” guy has said he will take the car plug into computer reset it all and switch off anything AdBlue related so that this problem doesn’t accur again.. before doing that I would like some more information as I don’t want to open up a can of worms with more issues to come in future nore do I want to give it the Peugeot for them to charge silly money for something that after I’ve looked into and already know is a money grabbing opportunity for them. Below I attach picture of the dashboard. Thanks in advance and I’m never going to France 😅😩😂

I suggest you give your 'chip tuner' a wide berth, as crippling / disabling emissions control systems is illegal!

You really shouldn't leave it to get too low and wait for the warning - but did you follow the guidance in the manual as to topping up? You need to put in the minimum amount and in some cases you need to leave the ignition off for some time after filling up to allow the top up to register.

Try doing a BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure and make sure you leave the battery off for a good 10 minutes or so instead of the few minutes suggested in the guide.

If that doesn't fix it, then you will likely need to have the DeNOx system reinitialised. The dealer can do this for you or a decent trustworthy garage with Diagbox software.

The warning you have tells me the top-up hasn't registered properly.

Hello! Unfortunately I didn’t follow the guidelines to refilling ad blue and I didn’t wait any amount of minutes for it to register the top up.. I also suspect now that this is why the warning came on only 5minutes after refilling the ad blue as I don’t think this is a coincidence at all either. I am going to try my best by following the BSI reset instructions with a friendly mechanic and I hope that this will fix the issue! Worst case scenario DeNox system reinitialised from the Peugeot deal any idea how much this can cost as I don’t want them to do anything else or be charged more for any “extras” they feel to include… Thanks again !!!

The wait after top up is only if the system was completely empty and starting prevented. Normally the fill up comes on with 1500 miles to go (which I assume would be 2400km) - if there's an error then the no start warning comes on at 700 miles (which would be 1250km - not sure why yours has come on at 1050km....!). So i think it's just coincidence, and there is a fault - it may be transient and resetting the system will make it go away, but that might be wishful thinking. It's possible that if a leak has developed from the tank into the pump chamber filling it up has allowed more to leak over and drown the electronics, but without a diagnostic we are just guessing. Any garage with a decent diag tool should be able to read the AdBlue codes and see what is going wrong - as long as they understand what they are looking at!

Denox reinitialisation won't cost anything other than whatever you're being charged for having your codes read. It's just another option in the engine (also called injection) ECU. Both my Diagbox and Xtool D8W can do this. It's not a rare thing.
