407 RD4->RD45

Unread post by robertel99 »

Well as the title suggests, I am looking to upgrade my RD4 to RD45, mainly for streaming music throught bluetooth. Now, my question is, will I be able to put the radio front from the 407 RD4, to a RD45? The fronts look rather different, and I think it would look like a nut in a wall. Also, is the sound through bluetooth better than the sound through the RD4 aux port? On RD4, the sound through aux is weak and shallow compared to radio, is it the same for RD45 Bluetooth?

The RD4 front panel complete with PCB should fit the RD45, although some trimming of plastic and metal casing may be required.
Of more concern is whether the display panel is compatible, and whether a panel from an RD45 equipped vehicle will fit if it is not.
What year is your car?

I have no complaints with RD45 audio quality of Bluetooth streaming, it is better in all respects than the RD4.

Thank you for the answer, I have ordered a display as well, with the correct software.
I had a same code display before, but the software version was too low, so I went ahead and got a v7x.xx one. The car is a 2005 model.

Also, do you think the classic black rd4 front would fit a 1 din adapter ?
this is the radio i bought, it also seems to be a very early model, the software version is like 3.0.

and this is the adapter I ordered

The RD4 / RD45 will not fit a DIN opening, it should fit the original opening in the dashboard, but they come with different width (and colour) facia to suit the car dashboard.

That photo looks like an RD4, not an RD45, you can tell by the label on the button to the right side of the CD slot.

got it then I will try my best to fit in the 407 fascia to it, or maybe try trimming the 1 din adaptor a bit so that the rd45 fascia fits into it. I will definitely make it fit one way or another

hmm, well there was a photo with a label and it said rd45 ( https://www.pieseauto.ro/poze/radio-cd- ... -0-0-0.jpg) and there was an rd45 part number on it. also looking at this thread, they also come with a TA button.

so rd45 connected, tried my best to put the 407 fascia onto the rd45 but no chance, the connector is bigger on the 407 one to start with so thats a direct no. routed the quadlock and the antennas through the glovebox and the rd45 sits there, mounted the 407 fascia back on so there is no hole in the dash at the moment, for the future I will try to go to a 3d printing shop and maybe they can do something there so I can fit the rd45 in the dash in its place. you were right it is not 1 din it is longer and wider.

BUT, I have an issue with bluetooth, the sound is... dissapointing, its crackling and distorts at high volume, however radio and cd were clear and loud. any ideeas as to why it could be?

This may down to the quality of the MP3 files themselves.

So check the speaker connections again and make sure they are tight and making a good connection.

There's 2 pins to the mic, earth and positive, but there should be codes on the sleeves
8487 (+)
8488 (Earth)
