Strange one. My mates car, 206cc 1.6 petrol, vin VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] had just driven across the UK and then 1/2 way down France with no issues at all, He parked it up for 2 days and it wouldn't start, not even trying. He thought it may be very low on fuel so put a gallon in it, still no joy.
I've plugged Diag in and am struggling. It gives 3 options of 206. (206, 206MUX and 206+). I've tried each one. The first 2 take me to Planet the 3rd to Diag but with many ECU's not recognised. No faults show up on the 3rd and the 1st is nightmare to navigate, the 2nd asks for the DAM?
I know diddly squat about petrol engines. What would cause it to suddenly not start? Do these have cam/crank sensors? Is there a fuel pump that you should be able to hear?
I have accessed this car before with Diagbox to clear a Cat fault prior to an MOT but just can't seem to now properly.
I've tried a BSI reset, no difference.
When going into the 'not recognised' ECU's it gives my multiple options but I have no idea which one's to choose. I've tried a few and it could read temps, peddle position and many other things.
BSI and Injectors/ignition are 2 of the ECU's not recognised.
Any ideas where to start please?

Re: 206cc not starting for no reason.
What year is the car and how many miles ?
When using the ignition key is the engine turning over ?
Is the key being recognised ? Leave it in the ignition and open the driver's door, many cars give a warning the key is left in showing the immobiliser recognises the key.
When the key is put in the ignition and turned just so the dash lights up can you hear the fuel pump for a short while in the tank ? If not the pump might have failed, I had this once on a Saab after stopping for a while and later the car would not start and had to get the car lifted home. If you try easy start and it runs a few seconds this helps confirm if a pump problem (pump, wiring, etc).

Re: 206cc not starting for no reason.
Thanks Paul, 2005, 140k miles, checked the key, 3 beeps when you open the door with the key in and the bits of Diag I could access said it was fine. Turns over fine. Can't hear a pump, may need to take the rear seat out. Not tried easy start etc. yet.
Cheers

It's probably the 2nd one, DAM is RP no - 09888 for this car.

When turning over is the rpm being shown ? If not the crank shaft sensor might be faulty.

Re: 206cc not starting for no reason.
Just plugged the 'puter in again. Can only get PP2000 to load on the first 2 (206 and 206MUX) which tells me next to nothing. 206+ lets me load Diagbox as before, with lots of unrecognised ECU's but at least I can get 'parameter checks. After sifting through the list of possible 'Injector/Ignition' ECU's to find a petrol engine I've gone for ME715 which allows me to see the engine rpm. Which is zero with the ignition set to on and remains zero when the starter motor is spun over.
The other figures given for temps, batt voltage etc. seem to be correct so I'm hoping this suggests the crank sensor is knackered.
Would other people agree or am I down the wrong rabbit hole?
Cheers

Just to add, there are no relevant fault codes.

Re: 206cc not starting for no reason.
Crank sensors do not cost much so it is worth a try replacing it but first check its wiring/connector are ok. A quick search suggests they are around £10 for the 206cc 1.6 petrol. Could be dearer from a Peugeot dealer.

Re: 206cc not starting for no reason.
Cheers for the reply. I've just found a youtube on how to test them. Yep, I agree with the wiring/connector check which is how I found the youtube. Well worth chucking another on if the harness measures up.
Cheers again

Re: 206cc not starting for no reason.
Fixed. The crank sensor is the 'induction' type with 2 pins. These can be tested by measuring to see if there is resistance between the pins. The old one showed 'open circuit'. The next test is to see if there is a very small voltage measured between the pins when in contact with something magnetic. The old one showed 0.0001V, which was probably me. The new one read 0.5 ohms and about 0.5v from memory.
Have to take the airbox out to gain access (just pull) and about a minute to fit.
My friends now a happy bunny.
