BEST MPG YET

Well filled up last Wednesday, I have done 596 miles and its just bobbled on the red light, though when i get back in it later tonight the tank will have settled slightly so will be off the red light.
Never got so many miles out of £40, im chuffed

My Xantia did 664.8 miles on the last tank, it did cost a bit more than £40 to fill up though - more like £60. 48mpg though.

What sort of mpg am i roughly getting, quite surprising though since ive not been driving grandad style the past week yet still this is the most ive ever had to date...few weeks ago i was doing 60 for the tanks worth on the A1 and still never managed to get the same as this

all i can get out of a tank is 350 at best thats driving around like a grandad does this mean theres somthing wrong with my car

Cant say i know the runnings of an Xantia but it depends if you do a lot of motorway miles or just round town trips

Probably not. It depends how far you want to push the fuel light.
Having a diesel instead of a petrol would undoubtably help too [8D]

It largely depends on how you drive and what sort of journeys you do. On several occaisions I have topped 850 miles in my td XM but it does have a 17 1/2 gallon tank, expensive to fill up. I regularly get 40 + driving locally but I live in a rural area and most journeys are in excess of 10 miles. My best fuel consumption of 50-55 mpg is on the Devon to North Scotland trip. I always try to travel when the motorways are quiet and I dont drive like a maniac and comply with the speed limits, well, most of the time.

500 miles is about the best I've got out of my Xantia. But that's motorway driving and I NEVER let the red light come on. [:0] The best I've had out of the ZX so far's been about 400, but that's with me driving the absolute nuts off it. [xx(] Driving a bit more sedately and giving it a good service would probably bring the fuel economy up a bit...

I got 265 out of my last tank, £52 to fill up, 20.5mpg and I love it heh!

Unless we know how many litres of fuel you have actually used most of the information being given is useless.. [V]
Fill the tank, and when you fill up again note how much fuel you put in.. i.e. how much you have used, and on the receipt write down your milage, then reset the clock.. Having done that go to http://javascript.internet.com/equivale ... llon2.html and put the miles in the top box, litres used in the lower one and press 'compute' then you can tell us what MPG you are actualy getting. [:)]
My ZX averages about 50 mpg on a motorway run, at 70mph.. (autos are not so economic as manual gearboxes)... it's still very very good though. [:D] [:)]
Edit. To date the best the Mazda has done is 36 mpg on a trip from Manchester to Paignton, Devon.. The best I ever got out of the old 323f 1.6fi 16v auto Mazda with the pop-up headlights was 26 mpg..

In rough terms...
Taking diesel at 92p / l, £40 = 43.5 litres. You have done 596 miles, so 13.7 miles/litre = 62 mpg.
Highly dependent of course on how far down the tank was list time, diesel price etc etc...

I check mine every tank full,as if the "usual" m.p.g. drops then it may be the start of a problem.
My daily trip to work is 40 miles of which 2 are dual carridgeway,and about 15 miles are about town and I regularly get 53mpg at this time of year although it drops in winter to 50 (+ / - 2 )not to shabby for an old girl of 201k.

Missed 50 MPG by a whisker in Grolliffe on the last tankful driving at normal speeds. Happy enough with that for a thirteen year old car.

My ZX 1.4I averages 41 mpg, not bad for 100,000 mile twelve year old.
