C5 WIPER MOTOR

Unread post by captainalice »

Hallo there,
our 2008 C5 estate n/s wiper went intermittent then stopped. The o/s one works on one speed only. I can move the n/s wiper by hand but it wont move itself. Does this mean replace the n/s motor,or would an ECU reset solve the problem ? If,as seems likely, the motor has decided to stop playing, where could I get a relatively inexpensive one ? The car has done 202,000 miles.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Captain,
The wiper arms are driven by a worm gear arrangement meaning that under normal conditions you should not be able to move the wiper arm by hand.

So the wiper arm could have become detached from the drive shaft with the retaining nut having become loose, the motor will be working.

Alternatively there could be a failure inside the wiper motor gearbox and only the removal and an investigation of the motor will reveal what is wrong.

Hope that helps.
Andy.
If it can happen it will.

It takes about 20 minutes to remove the wiper motor and I recommend every C5 owner to do it - they suffer from major corrosion and cleaning them up, greasing them and applying some sort of protection is the best investment to prevent having to pay out £200+ to replace one.

(in french but shows the state of most C5 wiper motors!)
