Differential pressure sensor, how to trouble shoot

Unread post by Proace7000 »

Hello :)

I have toyota with the same pdf system as your french Cars

My car gets a check engine light an d fault code for the differential pressure sensor. P16E8.
The pdf os replaced with a brand New, and the diff press sensor is New, and the hoses are replaced. Still same fault.
As I can not get the wiring, I have troed to measure to get the basic data.

There are 3 pins to the sensor.
I thought there should only be 5v (referanse voltage)on one of them , but there is 5v on two of them.

I get these measurements when puling of the connector to sensor, and connect multimeter to it .
One lead to gnd, then measure one by one of the connector pins when engine on idle.
0v on the middle pin and 5v on the tow other pins.

Any tips ?

Thanx

When you replaced the DPF did you inform the engine ECU that the DPF has been replaced? This is a requirement or ECU will not know it has been replaced and will generally still provide warnings about it being full.

I guess the Toyota Garage did. The ting is that the Toyota Garage has given up after charging 10 000 dollar in troubleshooting.
They cant figure what is wrong with the car. Have picked it up now and try to see if I can find something.

The fault code P16E8 says it something wrong with the differential pressure.

Diagnose says it is zero.

When measure at the connector, when connected to the sensor i have 5Volt on reference, zero volt on gnd, and 4,6-4,7 volt on signal (at idle)
As far as I know the signal should be lover.

One more question

The two rubber hoses that is connected to the diff press sensor. What if they are x-cHanged, and connected to the opposite connection point then supposed to, will it matter? Feels like one of the pipes from dpf gives pressure, and the other gives vacuum.. but not 100 percent sure

Not recommended. Diff Pressure sensors measure pressure at the entry point of the DPF and after to gauge blockage.

Last utdate.

Today I swapped the two hoses to the diff pressure sensor.
I noticed that one of the ports only worked with vacuum, and the other port with pressure.

That seems logic, as the two pipes prom the dpf gives pressure for one pipe, and vacuum for the other pipe.
So, after this i connected a multimeter to the signal pin on the diff pressure sensor, and one lead to gnd. I strapped the leads to chassis, and put them in to the cabin and took a ride for 40 km.

The diff pressure signal now seems correct. It vaires from 0,5 volt to about 1.2 volt(on very high rev). This indicate a good functional dpf.

But the car does not agree. Still get 2 fault codes. P2002 (particle filter) and P16E8(diff pressure sensor).

Could it be as simple as a fault on the ecu? The dpf is brand New, so is also the sensor.

I also took a loook at the additive tank.
I i measured the containig fluid, 0,5 liters.
I pulled put the air breather on the top of it, seemed a little clogged.

I also noticed that there was next to Nothing additive fluid in the hose connected to the tank... is that normal ?

Thanks for all help and tip 👍👍
I am stuck right now.

Wil also mention that I drove the 40 km without engine light, it always Come on after stopping the car, then turn it on agian. Then the 2 codes appears. Every time.

Latest update:

Ecu receives signal from diff pressure sensor (voltage values) , but of some reason it does not convert values to millibar.
Diagnose says 0 (zero) millibar, and therefore i assume i get fault code for pressure sensor.

Garage assume next step is to replace ECU.

Yes, the garage confirmed that all new components has been adapted in correct way.

Ok, so again you may well have a different DPF system than the PSA versions (which are generally bespoke to PSA vehicles).

Very strange..
Only psa diagnose tool work on car

But Diagbox for your Proace will be designed for use with the Proace-specific equipment on your vehicle. Diagbox is only the brand name of the software - there are different versions used by different manufacturers. Each version contains all the software and data files unique to the equipment and ECUs fitted which on each supported vehicle.

So Diagbox for Toyota will be for specific models of which your Proace may be one model.

I can't help you with anything to do with parts or diagrams or detailed info for the reasons already explained, as our parts system is designed to work only with PSA VIN numbers.

Yes i understand. I bought one diagnose tool specific for Toyota. It works on my Toyota Rav4, i can pick up any data i want. But it can not communicate with the Proace, get message "not supported".Only obd2. I can pick ut Common obd2 data etc.
The mecanic at Toyota Garage Said proace 2017 must use diagbox for PSA.

https://www.toyota-tech.eu/tmu/uploads/ ... 0guide.pdf

But i guess he or me has misunderstood something then.
Anyway i hope replacement of ECU will cure the car🤑

Problem Solved.
It was the ECU.

The ECU got data from the pressure sensor in the correct range 0,5-4,5V.
However, the ecu could of some reason not transduce the volt-signal to millibar, so millibar readout show zero millibar constant, wich leads to fail code on diff pressure sensor.
When ecu reads error on diff pressure sensor, it automatic generates fault code on dpf system, wich again inhibit regenerating dpf.
Toyota confirmed that it was a psa-car with psa software.
Took almost two months and almost 10K dollars.
It will most likely be covered by the prolonged guaranti from Toyota, wich you obtain when taking all services at Toyota Garage

Toyota Proace is a badge engineered Citroën Jumpy/Dispatch, so Diagbox works on it
Proace City is a Berlingo
I have various repair handbooks and wiring diagrams for C5 mk1, Xantia, XM, Berlingo and C3 mk1.
I have Lexia/Diagbox (Sweden) and Servicebox/sedre
