3008 1.6. Lots of used for sale.

Unread post by seanrx »

Hi all.
Am usually in the Citroen forum, but am looking to buy another French car.

So this Peugeot model.
At just over/under 100,00 miles, a lot of them are for sale at about £4000. For what reason?

Is there a common expensive fix to be needed by their former owners?

I have a workmate in a 2020 model. A month after buying it was returned for an almost new engine replacement.
His original complaint was only of a whooshing sound from the front wheel area.Unsure of it's engine size, but was fixed under warranty.

You have not given which year or engine (petrol or diesel, auto or manual) you are looking at but the diesel 1.6 at 10 years or so many miles if sooner (100k or possibly higher) the timing belt needs replacing. The 1.5 diesel can have problems with the cam shaft chain, the Puretech petrol can have timing belt problems and its first belt change is a relatively low mileage. The diesels also have a dpf that around 100k miles might be due for replacement.

Hi.
The years, from 2011- 2014. All diesel 1.6 and a mix of auto/manual.
Though a couple of 2011/12 at 50000 or so mileage.

I counted 18 for sale around my town with a lone 2.0L diesel.
It's all these cars that has me learning now of diesel car ownership. What bills to expect, driving style, maintenance.
As I've only owned a petrol car.

I would start with the 2 litre diesel, you can never have too much power and these engines seem to last. Also the 3008 is a large car. We've had a few C4s with the 1.6 hdi engine and they have been good but the 1.5 hdi in our 308 is a bit underpowered for the car and when at motorway speeds the fuel economy is not as good as I expected.

Agreed. Larger engines, less strain.

Only one 2.0L for sale I think is a good sign (or should be) of reliability.

Have also viewed a Renault Mégane estate, 1.5 diesel. But again I think too small an engine for that bodyshape.
