Re: Just been stabbed.
I've been quite poorly for most of the last month, doc hasn't been able to diagnose so he put me on a five day course of penicillin and ordered blood tests, I'm feeling better but by no means well, back on another five days penicillin and a second blood test today, Doc says they have no record of me ever having a blood test in the past so no base line to check from.

I could lend you one of my many hundreds of blood tests if you want?

Re: Just been stabbed.
We've not had any Covid boosters and will no longer be doing so, given that there is a link between mRNA Covid-19 vaccines and an increased risk of myocarditis and pericarditis. I certainly wouldn't have had the first one either if I'd known about this earlier.

Re: Just been stabbed.
Having only had covid 3 times, and each time was not as bad as the time before. I'm of the opinion, if there's a 'jab' that will help me stay mobile and is deemed generally 'safe' i will have it.
Yes i know the possible problems that can occur, for instance friend of brother-in-law had complications, out of action for best part of a year, but just walked up Yr Wyddfa (ne Snowdon) "While he can" as the assumption is his health will decline again.
But i would still prefer to have a chance than rather end up like him.

Re: Just been stabbed.
There's a very poor public perception of risk. When told that there's a 1 in x million chance of complication arising from being vaccinated, many people concentrate on that. They're not able to weigh that up against the greater chance of complications resulting from catching Covid. Covid is still around and people are catching it. There are still those who are then going on to develop complications, some very severe.
I have had Covid twice now and my medical situation complicates when, and if, I can be vaccinated. I will take the autumn booster when it arrives and urge everyone to do the same. This isn't a case of If it ain't broke don't fix it, this is prudent planning against a possible problem in the future.

As long as it's still a choice, I'm exercising my right to decline, thanks. My body, my choice.
Another reason why they've stopped boosters to all except the elderly and those at high risk of Covid complications of course IIRC.

Re: Just been stabbed.
There are of course similar risks with other vaccines, and the 'flu vaccine is very similar to the Covid one.
I just pile on and get whatever they offer. Had all sorts especially since changing surgeries, loads of tests and follow-ups.
I certainly wouldn't want to end up like Dianna, mainly as it would put a huge burden on my kids.
Although; my youngest might give me a free and premature embalming and save a lot of bother.
I am a bit odd in that I never have the slightest reaction to any vaccines, absolutely nothing, but am also immune to many medicines too, they do nothing.
Same with coffee that seems to send some people in a bit of a tiz, can drink unlimited amounts, and not crap instant coffee but proper Turkish style. No reaction and doesn't keep me awake either.

Re: Just been stabbed.
I've had Covid twice now and both were bad... I'm still not recovered from the last bout back in April as it caused a significant ME relapse
I'd been in remission for a number of years beforehand.
Very similar to Long Covid
I have my good days and not so good days - the latter more than the former
I'll go for the jab every time. I usually feel rough for a day or so afterward but far better than being in ME relapse for months on end with no end-date in prospect.
Ditto the 'flu jab.

Re: Just been stabbed.
His problem started after a booster, can't remember which one appart from being one i had heard of - so nothing unusual.Paul-R wrote: 02 Aug 2024, 14:28 Stu

I'm one of the unfortunates that are too young to get boosters or even a flu jab. Wales stopped flu jabs to under 65… (Just a kid at 62!) and I'm not pregnant either … so i have to pay for it. As for a Covid jab no chance …

Re: Just been stabbed.
Ahhhh..... THE vaccines.
Ignite blue touch paper and stand well back
The vaccines were born out of a time of somewhat desperation. Most governments were in a blind panic at the start of the Covid issue - there was a hell of a lot going on behind the scenes that didn't get reported and it was - in many respects - akin to a Transition To War scenario. Governments were, genuinely, 'bricking it' !
Part of this time was, obviously, the rush to get a vaccine. Any vaccine, or medicine for that matter, normally takes years / decades to get to mass market. The Covid vaccines took months.
ALL medicines have side effects - even the humble Aspirin does..... even water does if you have too much of it ! The Covid vaccines are no exception, but the exact nature of those side effects is still not accepted or agreed on by all sides, though some countries regulate their use and only target a certain deomographic - partly due to known side effects, and partly down to basic efficacy of the product. There's plenty of evidence to show that for Mr & Mrs Average - staying fit, plenty of fresh air, and maybe some vitamin D is more or less just as effective in the end. Not a lot of help if you're not Mr & Mrs Average though.
No sensible government is going to turn around in the near future and say: "Yeah, about those vaccines........ they weren't actually very good or much use for most people" The standard operating procedure in this scenario is to have a long standing review of the medicine's efficacy and issues and then, maybe, 10, 20, 30 years down the line have an enquiry that deals with the evidence. (cf : The tainted blood enquiry.) Once that vaccine inquiry happens, then people will be able to make an informed choice about whether they take it or not. We're not at that stage yet !
It's wholly inaccurate to say "The Vaccine is all bad an no one should have it"
It's also wholly inaccurate to say "The Vaccine is all good and everyone should have it"
It will have benefits for some. It will have no benefits for some. It will cause injury to some. All medicines are like that - it just comes down to a risk / benefit analysis for the individual. Alcohol has an inherent risk - but people still drink. Nicotine has a risk - but people still smoke. Using social media has a risk - but people still use it.
To each - their own.

Re: Just been stabbed.
No jabs of any sort for me when I have a say!! ( When I dislocated my ankle they jabbed me and reset it after I had passed out with the pain!) Since spending 5 years between age 8 and 13 recovering from a tetanus jab I was given age 8, I vowed no more jabs at all, and I've stuck to it. If I catch something and die so be it, what will be will be!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
