Re: Common Scams Section
The only scammers I've dealt with this year have been via eBay. I ordered some Jewelry for Mrs. Michel and the sods sent me motorbike parts instead.

Re: Common Scams Section
This looks very suspicious to me, especially as I have paid not tax in six years.

Could also send it to West Point, or even, if you can work out their info-heavy website, search for the scammer's name.mickthemaverick wrote: 19 Jun 2024, 09:36 Well it's a new twist Gibbo, I'd forward that to somebody in the Ukrainian Embassy and see what happens!!![]()

Re: Common Scams Section
Had a text purportedly from Evri to say there was a delay as my postcode was missing.
Had similar a couple of weeks ago about a delivery for daughter in law as they were away for a few days, she got similar ones.
Asked son if they were expecting anything and he said not, she had cancelled her order as they were buggering about too much.
I have two orders from Amazon but not for delivery yet, then remembered one from eBay.
Checked email and eBay one being delivered today, so not Evri.
Clicked the link in the text and big red warning.
Marked as spam/scam and obliterated.

Re: Common Scams Section
Dad a called yesterday together with an alert that it was possibly spam/a scam.
Blocked the number (I don't answer phone calls) and they have tried again today (but blocked, of course).

Re: Common Scams Section
Calls from numbers I don't recognise are treated with great suspicion and intolerance. A few times I've told what were perfectly legitimate callers to go forth and multiply... My fundamental rule is that if the caller does not immediately speak on answer, they're told to f-off and then blocked.
I've even blocked perfectly legitimate calls! 99.9% of legitimate callers totally understand... Some callers now know my default greeting is far from polite; It weeds out the little scammy b'stards very effectively.
My block list contains a lot of numbers...

Just had a call on the phone, would normally ignore it but had just had a delivery from GSF (via UPS) and thought that it may be connected, confirmation of delivery or somesuch.

I had a call (from +44 7849 276669) that was a robot with a female American voice telling me that my mobile service was going to be disconnected soon (and then started a list of language options). I blocked it, and I am not worried by it (company phone, so if it does get cut off they can deal with it).

An email purporting to be from Microsoft arrived, it astounds me how some people are liable to fall for this but I know they will. This is a jpeg image with no live links: Click on the image to enlarge for reading

Gosh! That's quite well crafted although the email address immediately gives the game away - thank goodness...

Re: Common Scams Section
The email address is always the first thing I look at. This is where using a proper computer is soooo superior to using a phone. And where's the equivalent to hovering, eh?
The strange line break in the first and second paragraphs and then the peculiar phraseology "In case of ignorance" add further evidence.

Re: Common Scams Section
I woz jinxed! Shortly after posting above I received the following email. Apart from the email address (natch) it looks pretty genuine. This one is definitely a cut above the usual rubbish which might explain how it got through my spam filter.

That's perfectly genuine Paul... You can tell by the email address that is so.
