My neighbour's grandson had his car cloned when he posted pics of it only and had all sorts of bother from the cops and the ebay fakers, so I blocked the numbers on this with a dabber.myglaren wrote: 11 May 2024, 11:58 I hope you will be very happy together.
Need to sort out the illegal registration plates though![]()

Re: Spent it!
I knew a bloke in Sunderland that had quite a number of flash cars but at the time had a Rover 600.
The police showed up at his door asking about the car. She gave them the garage keys and there it was in the garage.
They wanted to know when it had been in London.
She told them that that car never had.
They asked her where her husband was.
He was off sailing in his yacht and performing security checks for the IRS and Coastguard, he had a kilo of cocaine on board and they were checking to see which ports found it and which didn't. He had been doing this for over a week.
So it was clear that the Rover hadn't been in London the previous evening and someone had cloned the registration. It was suspected of involvement in an IRA bombing.
Good thing he had a sound alibi, under the beady eyes or the IRA and coastguard.
Cloned plates often used in petrol thefts. Fill up and drive off and the legitimate owner of the registration gets a visit from the police.

Re: Spent it!
I do think that is one advantage of having a rare car. There are only 10 of my Subaru Legacy SEN Autos left and only 9 MX3s so you'd have to be pretty darn stupid to clone either of those!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Spent it!
Having spent the cash on the new car I got this today from Pod-Point who supplied my original home charger, I've got the solar panels and a storage battery so probably it'll work but is it worth it?

Re: Spent it!
Depending on how your existing solar/battery feed is integrated I would have thought you are already using the solar to charge the car from the battery overnight? If not then it may be worth the upgrade to simply get a newer feed for your new baby?

I can supply the paper Gibbo, just print it out and fill in each side with a pencil.Gibbo2286 wrote: 14 May 2024, 17:25 Having spent the cash on the new car I got this today from Pod-Point who supplied my original home charger, I've got the solar panels and a storage battery so probably it'll work but is it worth it?

Mine would probably have on the left side £0.00 on the right side £599.00 (preceded by the meaningless "from" of course (... and the possibility of further upselling when the rep/sparks arrive)).
Wonder if Octopus would offer some kind of deal too. Not sure if your solar will be tied into them now, or whether you have carte blanche to charge your car up with the solar you generate.

Solar/Battery storage/Export Tariffs/Car charging/Specific EV Tariffs/Apps/Smart Meters/communicating by X
All a foreign country to me. But the company leading the way do appear to be Octopus.
This is about switching energy supply to the Octopus Intelligent Go tariff, and tapping away at a smartphone app to set it up. The chap appears to switch his Octopus tariffs between summer and winter on the basis of his solar generation. All done by app and very complimentary about Octopus sorting stuff out.
If you are savvy, you can make these things work in your favour to make the most of solar/battery storage/ev charging etc to take advantage of the various tariffs on offer. I haven't gone beyond plugging in a granny cable to a 3 pin socket to charge up the leaf/ a very dumb meter/ and a bog standard variable charge tariff with Scottish Power, and pay 4 times as much as the bloke in the vid to charge up at home!:-D

Re: Spent it!
I'm with Octopus since Shell sold its UK customers to them Neil, I've been looking at the different tariffs including the 'Go' but it's another maths job to decide whether or not to change, the offer of cheap overnight charging is a bit of a 'catch penny' because the ordinary day rates are upped on that tariff.
I did go to the website and checked but it said neither my Pod-Point charger nor the Zoe are yet compatible with the system.

Re: Spent it!
Plenty of that nonsense on the net Marc, it could be said about just every car model and brand ever made, used to be called 'Friday cars'.
The Renault Zoe, a pioneering electric supermini, has been taken off sale in the UK after 11 years of production. It was originally launched in 2012 and has sold nearly 400,000 examples in Europe1. In the UK alone, more than 30,000 Zoes were sold, and across Europe, the total exceeded 380,000 units. The Zoe held the title of the top-selling EV in Europe for two years, leading the sales charts in 2015 and 2016. Despite its success, Renault decided not to replace the Zoe, opting instead to focus on a mix of hybrid and electric cars, including the Mégane E-Tech hatchback and upcoming models like the Scenic crossover, Renault 5 supermini, and Renault 4 baby crossover1. Farewell to the Zoe, a true electric trailblazer!

Re: Spent it!
I only saw this last night - and as it's from a Zoe owner, thought it worth a mention as that's a significant issue having to write the car off because of a failed A/C that exploded and the lack of facilities in his area. I think it's always good to use real life examples, like the Audi E-tron owner that he also features on his channel that I mentioned above.
I'm not Zoe -knocking, but when I saw you've bought another one (likely the later version as mentioned) I wanted to bring it to your attention.

Re: Spent it!
The problem with those stories Marc is they're second/third hand page fillers taken from the likes of the Guardian without any background about the car or owner, could have been misused, boy raced waded through a stream or dropped in a ditch for all we know.

Re: Spent it!
So I went for the charger upgrade, the car charges now completely from solar, no input from the grid, I've put the earlier one on Ebay this morning https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226163130129 if anyone wants a cheapie, you'll need a qualified electrician to set it up.
