First aired Jan 1986, so filmed in 85. I bought my first new car, 2cv special in 1984 but at the time didn’t recognise it for what it was. So, at that time I assume well before any galvanised chassis’.
I suppose 2cvs were used so much was because they were light and had removable body/panels.

I have just watched a very interesting program on BBC4. "The Octopus in My House". The scientist had a large aquarium with a Day Octopus who was named Heidi. He studies octopuses in the wild, but wanted to have more interaction with them. He found out quite a lot, with footage of Heidi obviously dreaming at the end of the program. There was also a section that confounds the statement that octopuses are solitary creatures; there is an area where a dozen or so octopuses are living close together in the wild, and these octopuses are obviously communicating with each other.

I have just watched "PQ17; An Artic Convoy Disaster", which was written and presented by Jeremy Clarkson. As usual with him, when he is presenting something military related, he presented it well. While he does, on a few occasions, make his opinion felt, he is not outspoken.

BBC 4, 21:00 to 22:00 (for those who want to look it up on the iPlayer). It first aired in 2016.

Yes I saw that first time round James a very well put together presentation I thought' I have a pretty large collection of WW2 naval books and PQ17 brings together a lot of the various events that happened at different places all in one storyline.

In a very small unlikely co-incidence "Arkhangelsk" one of the destinations for the Convoys got a mention just the other day on the FCF in connection with the Hovercraft Museum's AP1-88 "Falcon" (formerly "Silverco") which provided Ferry Services at Arkhangelsk as part of its operational career.

Its always good when a programme captures your interest. Its more of a surprise these days
Even more surprising when the presenter is none other than Jeremy Clarkson.

Speak as you find though, and this programme was very good, and told a story I wasn't aware of. Worth a watch if you missed it.

I half remember the title of this, not so much watching it...may have just been available in other regions. It is significant in that it provided a start for some heavyweight comedy actors the main protagonists being David Jason, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Jones together with Denise Coffey. Discovered today on the back of a couple of LP's from the "house band" in the show "The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band" on display in a charity shop window.

Probably dated but nice silly sketches in pre-python-esque style. I liked this sketch about James Watt with David Jason and Denise Coffey. "Great discoveries of out time...James Watt discovers the steam engine from the simple kettle" video starts at that bit with the cheery music of "Dr Finlay's Casebook" playing in the background. See if you like it. I did.

The BBC have been running the second series of "Freddie Flintoffs' Field of Dreams". I am enjoying Freddie taking his team of young men WAY out of their comfort zone to India! Each episode has the team playing against a local cricket team (cricket in India has a status level similar to religion). This weeks' episode had the team playing against a team of girls (ages from eleven to late teens), and Eli (one of Freddies' team) recalled a time when, in the UK, he was playing against another team with a girl on the team. When he mentioned this to his father he got a response along the lines of "When the ball leaves the bowlers' hand it doesn't have a gender; it has an agenda". Very insightful comment.

Freddie chose to make Sean captain for this particular match. Normally Sean is a bit 'wayward', but on this occasion he really stepped up, and was an exceptional captain. On winning the toss he chose to put the girls team into bat first, and they set a very good score. When Freddies' team went in to bat they found the girls team was a really hard challenge. Freddies' team managed to win, but it was very close. Sean was very complementary (but not condescending) to the girls' team captain after the match.

To round off the day Freddies team had been invited to a meal by the Deputy High Commissioner! They had not arrived in India with any formal attire, so they had to go to an Indian tailor to be measured up for suits! Some unusual 'combinations', but I thought they pulled it off well.

While the young men can be a bit 'colourful' at times, their love of cricket is clear (as is their respect for the opposition). Yes, they have let Freddie down a couple of times (mainly time keeping), but when one of the team has issues they have set about to help understand (and, if possible, resolve) it. For example, one of the men was fasting for Ramadan, and the others managed to fast for a day (and then commented on how hard they found it!).

Started watching Sherwood on the BBC I-player last evening...

Gosh, it's good and I'm hugely enjoying watching it sprawled out across my new sofa!

The tense atmosphere is electric! BBC Drama at its best and no adverts

And I well remember the events of 1984 the plot revolves around... The miner's strike.

This came up on Autoshite too and I looked for it on iPlayer, not there yet.
I have seen it several times and it is indeed well worth watching although of course somewhat outdated now. The after effects remain valid though.

I have seen it occasionally on YouTube but it isn't there currently.


Similar but different is Survivors (1975) which is on YouTube.
Watched on the telly but must have been in the eighties as we weren't in the UK in 1975.
