Xantia MK2 Front seat repair.

Post by mark-nimbus-it-uk »

The foam in my passenger front seat has collapsed. Management is complaining of the frame tube pressing into her leg, fair!
So, I have another front seat to replace it, same fabic, everything good. BUT, it does not have the side airbag.

Is it poss to swap the seat backs? Can the upper and lower halves be split? I have 3 weeks untill we are going to tour europe.

Either I can frankenstein this together, or I have 2 weeks with the airbag light on, and a comfy boss.

I have looked as much as I can see on line, but so far no answer. I dont want to just jump in incase I bugger something up.

It is a LOT of work to switch the frame parts I would think....the mechanism is quite complicated.

It is easy to switch the foam pad and cover.....but you will need "Hog Rings" and hog ring pliers, these are quite cheep.

I would think a local trimmers would not charge a lot for the job.....they would not have to be automotive specialists to do the job.

Having spoken to a pro trimmer, he told me that Xantia covers are glued on, and that the foam squab is only clipped in. Going to have go myself soon, will come back with pictures.

There will be a procedure that will need to be followed to disarm the airbag before disconnecting it, also when connecting it. I do not know what it will be though but hopefully somebody on here will advise.

Not that I have ever seen.........the cover is clipped on around the edges and the foam slots into the frame, hog rings go through it from the underside to pull the cover tight onto the squab foam by gripping "spreaders" which are sewn into the cover.

Disconnect the battery, wait 10 mins, short out between the battery leads (just to make sure) then undo the connectors to the airbag. Really however, just pulling the plug apart should be fine as they need a pulse from the ECU to fire.

OK, no pictures yet.
2 hog rings at the front, six at the back.
There is a draw string, that is kept taught with a thing related to a cable tie ratchet, this can be release with your penknike blade.
There is one ear of fabric on each side that is looped over the reclining mechanism. The knob is just clipped on, it needs some violence to get it off. Then there is the cover plate, wich has a pin that it can be rotated around to give you access.
Assembly will be the reverse.
Picture tomorrow, when my Amazon hog ring pliers and rings show up.
