2014 Citroën C3 1.0 zmz Eb0 - hesitation when cold/lack of power

Post by Roblubi »

Hi guys! Hope you all alright! English is not my first language, apologise for any mistakes.

My Citroen is really struggling on cold engine.
Hesitates around 2000rpms when engine is cold.
No faults, no warning light on dash.

Things i have done so far:
-head gasket
-exhaust valve on 2nd cylinder (there was big chip, zero compression)
-clean tested selonoids
-new exhaust dephaser
-used inlet dephaser
-timing (old one was in pretty good nick comparing to my other purtechs)
-oil pan taken out to inspect oil sump - clean, but i take it out and clean it again. (oil pump chain bit loose)
-throtle body (used)
-replaced catalytic converter from my Peugeot 208
-different spark plugs
-new drive belt
-oil filters
-engine flushed twice - clean

No fault on diagnostic tool after all finishing all jobs above. Sometimes it does catch P0300 intermitten fault. Not really helpfull.
When engine is warmed up car drives alright, well i think it might be slightly under powered up to 3k rpms.

I was thinking about two things
A) overfueling when cold (why though?)
B) worn out oil pump (struggling too push dephasers with cold oil 0w30)

Slightly clicking sound on idle - clear out after touching pedal)

Maybe someone here did have simmilar problem with Citroën/Peugeot.

I was driving today and finally EML came on.
Staright when eml light, radiator fan starts on high speed.

Read codes

Hi, did you manage to solve this issue? I have been experiencing exactly the same issues as you have. The EML comes on when i am driving the car between 2500 to 3000 rpm. Between this rev range the car is sluggish and feels like it is misfiring. The same codes have come up (P1336 and P0300). I have changed the spark plugs, ignition coils, timing belt, valve stem seals, crankshaft position sensor, cleaned the fuel injectors, cleaned the vvt solenoids and also cleaned the pcv valve. Any idea what it can be?

Hi,
Did you tested compression on cylinders? I'am afraid this might be the issue, and rocking pistons. But then i ask myself why it happens only on cold engine in first few runs?
I was doing something on this car other day, i took it on test drive on cold and it did start misfiring badly, engine light comes on, it started slowing down to the point when engine strongly misfire and switch off itself. Ive try to start it again, finally it did start but strong misifire, only idle, pressing gas pedal no reaction.
Ive unplug postivie from battery, gave him few seconds, plug it back again.
Car started and run normal.

I know it can be bad compression.
But again, i can make this car running fine by d
riving it more agressive at beggining, or after disconnecting battery (when it catch fault in ECU bsi)

Check your compression maybe this is problem i feel like i stuck in dead point. I dont really want to give up at this point, but already put quite lot money in it.

Would it be bad afr on cold engine?
If its bad compression, wouldnt it be misfiring regardless engine temperature?

Would it be LSPI ?

But why if most parts have been replaced?

How to prevent it?

Why only when cold?

Car literally cant pass 1500rpms on cold engine. If i over rev it above this dead point its fine.
When i try to accelerate from idle on 2nd Gear it will stuck at 1500rpms, i think i hear knock when it does that. So again i think its pre-ignition/afr.

If that will lead you to something, let me know.

Some guy said that they updated his engine Management software in Peugeot dealer and this solved all issue.

But what, should i understand by "engine software update" sound strange to me? Is it just engine tune? Like remapping?

Yeah previously I did check the compression on all the cylinders and they were all around 135psi. The car does throw up the EML on more often when the car is cold or even when the reserve fuel warning comes on. The car does seem to run better when it is warmed up and I keep it in the higher rpm range. Maybe the issue is linked with carbon build up on the valves/intake? I have had this issue for 6 months and sometimes the car is ok to drive and sometimes its not.
