No need - I split the unit in half again and this time the o-ring partially popped out of the groove....

How I couldn't see the o-ring the first time I don't know! It certainly blended in extremely well...Hopefully I get a good seal after re-assembling it.

Does anyone have a copy of the wiring diagrams for the Bitron (S1 V6) to help me find where it actually is and trace the wiring for the level sensor mod ?

I suspect it has been posted in this thread before but with the thread now hitting 200 pages I doubt I could find it!

Just to clarify,

4010 is the coolant level sensor and 8010 is the Bitron ? So I'm doing this ?

Pin 6 of the Bitron (if I am correct about it being 8010) also goes to pin 4 of "0004" - what is this module ? It's not shown on the location diagram. Just wondering if this is easier to run a wire to than running it to the Bitron.

Edit: On disassembly I've just noticed that there is no pin in the plug for pin 2 to attach a wire to ! How did other people get around this ? Did you have to find a 3 pin plug from somewhere else to use ?

Just running the car a little bit to move it into position and notice it is also intermittently over-revving on idle as high as 1500rpm which it might hold for 5-10 seconds then drop back to normal, and these changes in "idle" speed seem to happen at random. I've noticed this happening before at random, usually when the engine is cold.

Surely this can only be the idle control valve causing this, as nothing else could speed up the idle when the throttle body is closed ? (which it is) However unplugging the connector to the idle control valve doesn't seem to do anything whether I do it while it is over revving or while the idle speed is correct.

Does this suggest the ICV is seizing ?

Yes indeed Simon, they are known to on occasion. I've had this on a couple of occasions. A good dose of WD-40 or similar will often work a bit of magic... WD is the work of the devil and I don't readily condone its use but in cases like these it can help.

Also, if you have a Lexia you can 'exercise' it to help make it happy again... Under 'Actuator Tests' in the ECU menu...

I managed to make some progress today until the rain intervened leaving the job about half done.

To get better access to the swirl pot I removed the ICV and while I had it out checked whether it's free to move with a screwdriver and it seems absolutely fine! Not seizing in the slightest, but also not worn and sloppy like the one in my other V6 was - movement wise it feels absolutely fine. So I ended up refitting it, and I guess I still have a mystery on my hands at the moment.

Here's the old and new pots:

And here it is installed before the ICV went back in:

I had to bodge it a little to fit - the original spring clamp doesn't fit the new swirl pot so I had to break off the upper "finger" that normally goes above the seam, and to compensate I ended up adding a cable tie to pull it down into the clamp to keep it from moving around.

I got as far as installing this and putting the ICV back in and was about to reinstall the expansion vessel when the rain started.

Looking at the photo above it looks like I have wires with a broken conduit that I will need to remember to tape up to avoid chafing!

I think I'm going to have to skip the coolant level sense mod this time as I don't have a plug with all three pins fitted to allow me to wire it up.

Well, that is odd with the ICV Simon. It would seem there's a good chance them it's a little air leak somewhere. Remembering the V6 intake plumbing, there's plenty of opportunity...

The new swirl pot looks good following your 'mods'. Fingers crossed it's good when in use and under pressure.

The missing pin on the coolant sensor plug is annoying. I had recovered one from an XM, but most PSA vehicles from the 90s and later seem to use similar sensors (and plugs).

Anyone know the correct torque for the spark plugs on the V6 ? Can’t seem to find it.

The spark plug below the filler cap is drowned nearly to the top electrode - I'm soaking up as much oil as I can with paper first so a big gulp of oil doesn't go into the cylinder but I'll want to remove it and degrease/clean it and refit it...

Edit, some sketchy sources (after market parts suppliers ) are suggesting 25Nm or 20-30Nm - does this seem reasonable ?
