Timing belt going for a walk and I think it took the seals with it
Hi all, I fitted oil seals on either end of the crank earlier in the year when I was rebuilding the engine. I have had a leak at both ends in the last couple of months.which prompted me to remove the timing cover. In doing so I discovered my belt has walked out about 5 mm off the pulley's. 2 questions what would cause the belt to do this and is it likely it caused the leaks.

All the cambelt pulleys I've seen are lipped on the inside and use the aux belt pulley as the outside 'lip' or are you taking about the aux belt? If so a tensioner.

No it's the timing/Cam belt, the housing is the only thing keeping the belt from coming off as far as I can make out thankfully it didn't or I would have been in a world of pain. The Aux belt is completely separate.

A tensioner or jockey wheel running off-square due to a bent axle...
I've once seen this caused by a water pump having a slightly bent (from brand-new - not OEM quality) drive shaft...

Thanks Jim, I'll check them and see what I find and post back there is a brand new gates water pump in it so maybe that is the cause.

Darren,
I have used Gates kits for all my Citroens with no problems. The only observation I can make is the same as Jim something is out of square.

Finally got the engine back in the car and got her running tonight. She is running smooth so should be good now. I have a esp fault so steering must be off centre slightly. I'll update when I finally get it on the road.
