Replaced the gear linkage rods on my 2000 W plate Saxo. The car has only done 27,000 miles as was in storage for years. No unusual noises from the clutch or gearbox (crunching, etc). First gear was stiff before the new linkage and now after as well. Greased everywhere I can access.
Anyone with ideas why it is stiff to select?
Thanks

It could be that the clutch is not fully disengaging. Is first gear stiff to engage with the engine stopped?

Re: Stiff first gear Citroen Saxo
I'd recommend a change of gearbox oil. These 'boxes are very fussy and only like the proper 75W/80 oil specially designed for them.
Any other gearbox oil will cause stiff gear engagement.

Stiff with the engine off as well, it's just a little annoying as other than that it drives great.
I will try a gearbox oil change.
Thanks for the help.
