Hi.
I have a semi auto. When I pull away it makes a loud rubbing sound that sounds like it’s coming for the left of the car. There is nothing on the wheel arch or driveshaft. One mechanic said it is coming from the gearbox. Has anyone encountered a problem like this.

How many miles has the car done?
Has the gearbox ever had a service (oil change?).
While they are apparently "sealed for life" there are suggestions it should get an oil change every 30-40k as a preventative measure.
But, it sounds like you need a gearbox specialist to try and give you a better diagnosis. If they are sure that is where the noise is coming from.
Is it a constant rubbing, or a rubbing with a specific interval, like a rotational rubbing?
Has anything else changed on the car recently?
I asked this as when I last got my tyres changed at kwick sh1t, as i drove away I could hear a rotational rubbing from my front right. I immediately stopped and reversed back into their garage and told them to fix whatever they did.
Turns out they put the wheel balancing weights in a slightly wrong position and it was grazing the calliper as the wheel rotated.

Possibly the brake pads are a bit seized and need cleaning or even worn out - when were they last serviced ?

You're aware he has a manual gearbox? Semi-Autos are just piloted manuals with normal clutch and gearbox with the addition of hydraulic actuators to do the gear and clutch changes. Therefore I wouldn't expect this noise to be coming from the gearbox.CitROeNALD wrote: 02 Mar 2024, 20:52

I suspect a stuck brake pad / worn discs too. What is the condition of the discs / pads and how much meat are on the pads?
