My lovely 38k n/a Xantia diesel went into 'storage' the week before COVID19.
A few weeks ago I started her up again. First time on ancient fuel.
Planning to restore it, I came across a Xantia 2.0 petrol with an automatic box which is obviously stuck in limp home third gear...
I thought I'd replace the solenoids and drive it for a while, then swap the entire bits from the '93 to the 1999 car.
Research into the auto box fortunately put me Right Off.
There are so, so many problems with post OBD2 cars that I think I will stick with my mint 306 1.9 XUD diesel I inherited from my very last customer. He passed away, aged 96. Still driving. The oldest ever operator of an XUD Diesel?
The only problem is, I also have my dad's last ever car, a K12 Micra.
And a BMW E36 Touring which the last owner loved...
And I love the Xantia.
At least cars like the 306 are endlessly repairable. The Micra has an electronic steering system which has a microchip costing £2 to buy, but when it dies, is not changeable as the software to make it work no longer exists. If it dies, I'd have to convert it to a manual steering system.
What a crazy world we live in. Hopefully the 306 will outlast me. I restored everything mechanical at 70k miles. All parts were top quality for pennies.
